Houston....we have a problem......
ok so I broke in a n21r... did the whole heat cycle method, still has a little metal pinch, blah blah blah..
anyway when I go to full throttle it cuts out and dies..
things I have done to solve it,
changed tune on top from 3 out to 5 out and everything inbetween
changed tune on bottom from 3 out to 5 out and all in between
changed shimming to 2 silver 2 copper and stock shimming
changed pipe from go2047 to re-10
changed fuel line
changed plug from stock to OD 99 to mc59
took apart and sealed everything
changed clutch 3 times even to different brands
any ideas?? it runs good till I get to the top end then it sputters and pops and dies. like I said I went lean to fat on top..
any help would be great

Did you check the fuel tank for leaks?

It sounds as if you have trouble shooted any issue the engine might have so move on to other parts of the equation .

My thoughts are that the problem is the fuel .

This is exactly what happens when you either have an old bottle of fuel , a really low nitro content fuel (like 5% heli) or your engine is grossly mis shimmed .

Try a fresh bottle of byrons and let me know what happens .

Remember this , just because you get fuel from your lhs doesn't mean its fresh , they could have left it sitting in back on a concrete floor for six months before you bought it and that is not good !!

Btw , I am no guru , I just know a few things

Not 100% sure what your Q is but the only difference between the xs and xl is the head . Yes this is the truth !! Why change a killer engine ?

Turbo crank? Hmmmmm

There is supposed to be a new p5xlt "tuned" sometime in the future but until then I will just make them myself . I think most are happy with my 5 ports

The 2008 and newer p5xs have the thicker mounting tabs

Yes they are internally identical , unless you have one of the very first xs engines that didn't have the lightened crank or novarossi or somebody along the way just threw a different crank in there . I have seen many of these engines
