Well i find it unlikely that 2 carbs are bad. Plus If you leave the glow igniter on and they stay running then chances are either Plugs are bad or they have too little compression or the rod it stretched. if its getting fuel and running fine with the glow ignitor on then its getting fuel...no question about that..Maybe too much?

New to Orion

After a lot of research, I decided to go with Orion this year. Being a marine mechanic, I work on a lot of new technology, two and 4 stroke engines, digital controls, etc. After each of my r/c engine purchases, I've always opened them up to check for debris prior to break in.(I once had an O.S. that had a bit of aluminum dust/flakes in the crankase). This engine however, blew me away. Who does laser engraving on internal components? My guess could only be that theres an element of pride in manufacturing, which I really don't see much of anymore. Looks awesome, can't wait to run it this season!
Break in starts tomorrow, will keep you posted.

You won't be dissappointed. I absolutely love my Discovery 5-port.. Even it has laser engraving on the internals.. I think it is an LM factory thing Werks and Sirio are that way also..

Scotty how do you compare the discovery 5 port to the other engines you have had?

I ran the same truck last year (HB D8T) with an eXtech .24, which I liked alot. the bottom end was nice, with great run time.. I would say the discovery is only slightly less powerful on bottom then the eXtech, and gets better run times and should scream on top. I haven't leaned mine out fully yet, so I know it'll all just get better..

I'm not sure what to tell you. These are the ABI higher end engines, and you DEFINITELY shouldn't be having this problem. I have run so many of these engines right out of the box just like you get them, and never had a problem even remotely like what you are having. They are just ready to eat right from the get go... in fact.. I have never even heard of anyone having this problem at all, and I have spoken to hundreds of guys who use these engines.

It's tough for me to help you without the car in hand. I know I could figure it out if I had the car to look at... my initial thought was it's too rich, but I'm sure you already thought of that.

Like I said, I think I could figure it out if I had the engines to look at.

@Eastside777:

Might be the clutch sagging ever so slightly on both cars?

Since they are identical cars, might have the same problem on both clutches?

Production failure on springs/shoes, or shimming. Clutch rubbing against clutchbell?

Just a suggestion. Something to check when no problem is found with the engines.

Anybody have an Idea when the discovery combos will be coming back in stock at distributors and retailers again?

Also, what pipe comes with the combo?

Thanks for all your help guys. It's definitely a very weird problem. We should get the carbs today so I'll let you know how it goes. We also have another Orion with the plastic carb and it runs good.

are the motors broken in? what is the idle gap set at? have you leaned the needles to the point the motor is starving for fuel? sounds like tune issue to me not a carb issue. the carbs on those motors are probably the best out right now. we learn from our mistakes though.

Noob question

Been doing electric for a while and considering picking up my first nitro buggy. Want to run an Orion engine but having a hard time figuring out whether to get a 3-port, 5-port, or 7-port. What's the difference? I assume it's top end vs torque with fewer ports == more torque, yes? Or is it more like overall power/speed?

And how do you decide on what pipe to use?

I'm with J_Blaze in thinking it is a tuning issue. I am actually wondering if it is too lean on bottom.. IE just enough Fuel entering comustion chamber allowing it to run with a fully lit Plug, but not enough with out it..

I ordered my Discovery Combo From Greg B, Through WV Hobbies and Crafts. Search Greg B here for info. My 5 port Discovery came with a 2013. I've read where some of them will be coming with 2058's, but I have no actual knowledge of whether this is true or not..
