Two friends of mine are having a problem with their brand new Orion engines. When on the box with the glow ignitor attached they fire and stay started. As soon as the ignitor is removed they die. We've checked fuel lines disassembled the carb and sealed them up. Still experiencing these problems. Both motors were working perfect when first started and then all of a sudden the problems started. Any suggestions? We've been through at least 10 plugs as well. Orion and OS P3 plugs. I've been racing for over 10 years and have never witnessed two brand new motors doing the exact same thing. One is the 3 port and one is the 7 port. Last night at the track we had about 6 people trying everything they could and nothing.

I posted in the wrong thread at first.

Only thing I can think of is that every plug we are trying is faulty. It's not the fuel as I was filling my car with the same fuel and bottle. I now have two frustrated friends who have just got into the hobby and feel they have wasted $600 each on engines. I only say $600 as we live in Bermuda and have to pay for international shipping as well as a 25% tax that is added to all RC parts coming into the country.

We've tried everything I can think of. I'm gonna try using a different pipe.

The plugs look good but just don't work in the engine so we've tried about 10 of them.

Obviously something is wrong. I find it very odd that both engines are doing the same thing, yet they are different configurations. Obviously built at different times and by different assembly staff. This leads me to believe (like Sherlock Holmes) that some outside influence is causing this. You said "checked" the fuel line... ? What does that mean exactly? What kind of cars are the engines in and what type/brand of fuel line are you using? I've seen engines that would not run at all with colored fuel line, then they put Kyosho fuel line on, and run perfect. This happened at the 2007 truck nats, no exaggeration...
Also, did anyone take the engines apart at all? Maybe take out a head shim or anything? People sometimes ask me if it will "run with the factory head shimming" and I tell them of course. Don't open up the engine! :weird: |

I am guessing that they are trying to break them in? If that is the case I have had that happen before, they are too rich and need to be leaned out. Pitpop can tell you where the needles should be for break in.
Rex If there is an expert level driver at your track that knows engines, I'm sure he could figure it out. I'm sure the engines haven't been hurt in any way at this point unless someone took them apart. |
Try OS P3 plug,it is hot plug.
I has been using this OS plug on this engine with no issue, and just close the low end about 1/4,lower the idle a bit.during break in. Hope this help Cheers James |
Well I won't exactly call myself an expert but I know my stuff and my engines have always run flawless even after rebuilds and such. Mind you they are a different drand.:sneaky: It's not the fuel line or anything as we put a different engine in both cars and they run perfect. The cars in question are two brand new MBX M-Specs. None of the engines have been torn down as of yet just the carbs. The engines were working fine at first and then all of a sudden the problems started. We've tried Orion and OS plugs with the same result. The fact that both engines are doing it is the real confusing part.

These are the two engines that they have. We are all running Byrons fuel and the fuel tubing that came with the car.

They just ordered two brand new carbs so I guess I'll let you know how we make out. Should get them next week some time.
