Most of the orange goodies have arrived. Still waiting on the camber links and button head screws (backordered :( ). Switch looks pretty cool no thanks to Graham (watch out for that guy, he'll make your wallet smaller  ).
Edit: eesh, pic came out "turble." I'll rectify later. http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/y...psaf31d754.jpg |

I know Ive seen talk about the losi clutch. So what from that are people using? The whole thing like flywheel, shoes, springs and clutch bell?
If so,what is the setup? I see one already comes pre assembled with 2 carbon and 2 alum shoes. |

Ok............I know I am wearing you guys out so I will try to get it all out at once. I am jumping into Nitro and know nothing. Been doing electric since the original RC10-T but this is all new. never been a nitro track in my hood.
Best????? Starter Box Switch Receiver pack for the Tekno Fuel (planning on a Werks motor) Igniter? Tools I would need What am I missing? Sorry guys I have nobody in my hood to bother on this topic. Starter Box: Ofna or Protek. I have the Protek and it takes some trial and error to get it set right but once you do its ultra reliable. I recommend removing the engine to set you starter box. Switch: If you go the mechanical switch route then make sure you buy a dust cover, hitec switch and a cover such as LOSA4419 or OFN10280. When turning off and on, push from the base of the switch and it will last much longer. I prefer the electronic switches because they have LED for lipo voltage. If you have the money go with the $50 KO Propo or Kyosho (same switch and has LED light bar to tell voltage and other features) or Xpert which only shows when the Lipo is low which doesnt help if you run 45 min mains but its $15. Receiver Pack: Any hump style, I have a trinity, LRP, Protek and one other brand and they all seem to last the same so just pick your favorite brand. Fuel: Well, thats one of those questions that will get you 20 different answers but you cant go wrong with Byrons Race 25% which is 11% castor and great for buggy. I run Maxys and think its been incredibly consistent and would recommend any day. Ignitor: As mentioned, the HotShots are pretty much the standard, I prefer the Mugen one because you can replace the battery and it has a glow plug meter. I do not like the LRP and Protek ones in which you have to squeeze because often times they have issues. Also if you get one with a replaceable battery, make sure you tighten very well if you replace the battery because otherwise you may have a short and youll think the ignitor doesnt work. Tools: I mentioned the stuff that others didn't but just so you have a list: MIP Tools are great as mentioned but they arent specific to nitro but their 2.5 ball end is no good for mounting engines because the handle is too thick and I am sure you already have the standard metric drivers for your other ktis but for engines I recommend the OS 2.5mm ball end, its designed for engines and has great grabbing power and a slim handle so it doesnt rub the engine head. I am sure you have some needle nose pliers. The tekno turnbuckle wrench is awesome and works on the brake linkage as well. Tools you will want not for a Tekno kit but not nitro specific, 4mm arm reamer. Stuff others didnt mention: Fuel Bottle (serpent and kyosho are the best ones, very soft) Tuning Driver (make sure you get a 120mm or longer one and depending on your engine 4mm or 5mm head) Temp Gun (home depot) Heat Gun (home depot) Pit Bag (Protek makes a great one for cheap) Feel free to PM when you get the kit for build tips and recommendations. |

Thanks for all the help........you guys have been great.
Hopefully I will have the experience I am hoping for, having fun, which is what this hobby is all about in the end. I love to race but for me having something to tinker with around the house (lots of spare time with a rotating shift work job) is a large part of the hobby. I probably spend way too much money on hop up parts but I have a good time holed up in my man cave. At 48 years old I know I am not going to go out and beat the young guns. As long as I keep getting better and am not one of those guys you don't want on the track with you I am happy. If I can get into some more over 40 races I will have different goals but until then...........................fun! |
