The only way these shocks are going to rival properly built Kyosho's is with the delrin bushings, nitride coated shafts, and the Losi X-ring setup. I haven't done it, but a friend of mine is soon enough so we will know.

I have NO EXPERIENCE in Nitro and very little in E-Buggy, I have the Tekno EB48.2 and from what little I have gotten to run it I love it. But that could be my lack of experience.
The situation: local indoor track dying a slow death due to lack of interest and (management) Figure if I am going to have to travel to race may as well have some real fun and there are quite a few nitro options in my region especially 250 or so miles to the south in Texas. The question: this group seems pretty honest, after doing some studying and research on the nitro cars I have come back to the Tekno NB48 and think why not? I don't see a reason to try anything different and after looking at the manuals, I like the Tekno manual and the brake/throttle linkage system the best. At least to a novice it looks to be the most straight forward and easy system. I recently switched to Losi with my 10th scale buggies and thought for sure I was going to go 8 3.0 when I first decided to go ahead and jump into a nitro ride.........but now, not so much. Some of the local guys look at me funny when I say I am seriously going to get the Tekno. Am I missing anything? I don't really care if there is not a big name driving one, got over that a long time ago. Other than the body is ugly.............I like the FTW body though! |
Well if you already have an EB48.2, the NB48 should be a no brainer, it shares 80% of the parts but thats just convenience factor but regarding performance, yea a year ago everyone would snicker about my Tekno kits and kind of laugh it off but now everyone wants one or wants me to fix theirs, went from being called Heknos to Tankos. I have seen 3 guys drop their kyosho stuff and get the NB48 and NT48, and 2 guys drop Mugen when this time last year they were die hards and laughed at Teknos. Its just a matter of perception, tekno was young in the kit game but they did it right, they got them in the hands of fast guys and now I cant go to a race without seeing a Tekno in the top of almost any class. Its been great to see actually, like a little social experiment, how quickly trends change in this hobby. Not to mention, ask anyone I race with if I have ever DNF because of my kit breaking or something like that... it just doesnt happen, I dont know why JConcepts calls their bodies the finnishers but Tekno definitely deserves the name more haha.

The design/engineering of this car is what brought me to Tekno. I always loved Losi Jrs engineering approach and this reminded me of something he would do. I've been extremely happy with the buggy so far. I mentioned my likes/dislikes a couple pages back if you havent read the entire thread yet.

The losi x rings fit?

Ok............I know I am wearing you guys out so I will try to get it all out at once. I am jumping into Nitro and know nothing. Been doing electric since the original RC10-T but this is all new. never been a nitro track in my hood.
Best????? Starter Box Switch Receiver pack for the Tekno Fuel (planning on a Werks motor) Igniter? Tools I would need What am I missing? Sorry guys I have nobody in my hood to bother on this topic. |
If I were you I would go check out the tracks that you plan on driving to.
That is a pretty big investment to be making to find out that you can't stand driving 250 miles or so to the track. I am lucky I guess. I have a handful of tracks within an hour and a half from me. |

I've been fortunate over the years and have never had a switch fail. I just switched over to electronic switches and have really like them thus far. Thunder Innovations aluminum switch just arrived today. It was priced pretty well for a switch that has a LVC. Hopefull it's reliable. I've been running the Reedy 2100s for a couple years now (previous buggy and now this one). No issues with it and it leaves quite a bit of room in the battery box (I use a piece of foam to keep it snug) so that may not be something you like. Tons of good battery options out there. Tons of good fuels out there so I'd just recommend using what the majority of other local racers have in case you have some issue (ie you run out and need to buy some from a racer because the shop was out of your favorite). Hot Shot is the ignitor to use. It is like the Ofna starter box; ultra reliable! Dont put it down for long, they tend to grow legs... MIP/Thorp just flat out makes the best tools on earth. Lots of people love their Hudy's but I hate their handles. Those are definitely the two brands that are at the top of the list. That's not to say there arent other great tools but the MIPs are well worth the money. The Losi turnbuckle wrench (3 sizes in 1) is pretty awesome but it's too wide to adjust the brake linkage. Great for everything else though, I love it. 5.5 and 7mm nut drivers are the most common like previously posted. |
Most of the orange goodies have arrived. Still waiting on the camber links and button head screws (backordered :( ). Switch looks pretty cool no thanks to Graham (watch out for that guy, he'll make your wallet smaller  ).
Edit: eesh, pic came out "turble." I'll rectify later. http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/y...psaf31d754.jpg |

That being said, if I want to continue racing at all, the tracks are all about the same radius to where I am. Fastlane Kansas City(more than likely driving up there this saturday to run the 22 2.0 and 22-4 on their indoor track.) Mikes in Dallas (temporarily out of business and from what I have heard has not found a new building yet) Indyrcworld Basically Dallas (haven't been there yet, was planning on it this Sunday to run the ebuggy and 10th scale, but the wife has other plans for me this weekend...........husband duties) So Saturday is my race day this weekend. Hutchinson Kansas has a nice indoor 10th scale (problem is they start racing at 6:00pm and that leaves me driving home until 3:00 am or so or staying the night. Fastlane opens at 10:30am and is typically done by 7:00 or so if not sooner. I can be back home in Tulsa by the time the races are over in Hutch. gshobby runs Ebuggy over in Arkansas, nice track but in reality it's kind of a tweener a little to big for 10th scale buggy but not really a true 1/8th scale track. Hopefully somebody opens a track in OKC or Tulsa sometime in the near future. I know of a new hobby shop in Tulsa that plans on having a track or two but they want to establish their business first. They seem committed hopefully if they do open them people will support it. So, I understand what you are getting at but I have been put in a position of............I have to travel 3 to 4 hours if I want to race anyway. At least for the time being, so why not get into Nitro it's something I have been wanting to try for a little while but figured nobody else here was doing it and I probably wouldn't want to make the investment if I was only going to race it a couple of times a year. Hence the EB48.2 (which in reality other than the starter box, igniter, etc........is about the same investment as a Nitro ride) but I understand electric been doing that for 20+ years so it was an easy compromise. Kids grown and gone, wife trains for marathons and triathalons, man has to have something to do when he isn't working or life becomes real boring (bad knees.................it's why I don't run with the wife, I do get the bike out and do some training with her on that but I can't keep up) So that's the story, if my local 10th scale track was thriving no I probably would not make the investment as I probably wouldn't travel 250 miles to race a lot if my local track was 20 minutes away. But, not so lucky anymore I guess. |
