The other pair of each looks like plain old dull aluminum. Regardless of color they DO have the same part number on the header tags. The header tag on the "plain" looking fronts says "anodized" but the header card on the rears just says "threaded shock" with no reference to anodizing.

The folks I bought from supposedly closed a hobby shop. Their reply was that it was a running change from when production was moved to China, that they are all hard coated.

Is this the case or is someone blowing smoke up my skirt?
I just finished off my FT T4 today and it has the dull hard coated shocks. I thought they were going to anodized bling, but alas.......

Time to replace them, I guess.

My recommendation would be a Velociti 6.5 geared 87/15-18 depending on track layout and conditions

Might be too much IMO. I have the 6.5 on my B44 and it is VERY fast. I saw a guy with a 6.5 and the T4 was quite a handful. Fast, but quite a handful.

run the 6.5 or 7.5 in the T4. as for gearing...i have a smaller track in the backyard and 87/22 works well. this is with a 6.5 and lipo batteries. the temps are good and its plenty fast.

If the 6.5 is too much can i turn it down on my radio and not have to change the gear ratio? and not harm it?

Correct. I run a 6.5 and often turn the throttle epa down depending on the track.

What is the best fan to run on the gtb that the fan blades don't break off?

Anyone out there have a working setup for hard packed clay using lipo without adding a bunch of weight?

Bling is just that, bling. Serves no purpose on a race car, therefor you won't find it on a FT car. Hard anodizing is only available in two or three colors, all of them are either grey or black. The blue is not hard anodized.

Funny you mention this. Coming from aluminum RC10worlds and team kits, the coated shock bodies were a darker olive greenish in color. The ones I got with the B4 kit looked like what you mention as "a dull aluminum finish". Aluminum when machined, has a shiny finish and from that, I was guessing that the coatings changed a bit.

Try these fans out. I run these and they work really good, I just ordered 2 more for my other cars.

Also, if you feel like doin alittle more, I dove with a Tekin driver that ran this shock setup with a lipo and no wieght (besides the standard 1.5oz on rear bulkhead) added:

Front:
35wt oil
piston 1
0 limiters
middle hole on tower
outer hole on arms
front arms level

Rear:
25wt oil
piston 1
1 limiter
inner hole on tower
inner hole on arms
CVD's level

Shocks are just the first thing your going to want to change when running light, the rest of you setup isn't "as" important as shocks, but every thing works in conjunction.

The ride height is really important , use dogbone slightly below level....
and
Just change the rear spring , not the oil ......
