Vent your tires not the wheels. This allows both water and debris to escape the tires. Also does not allow pressure build up (if your tire is air tight and not allowed to vent, any heat will cause pressure to build). Here's a video of Adam Drake gluing tires. Similar to the Jconcepts video just shorter.

I officially am beating a dead horse here.
So far the consensus has been - for off road - to vent the tires with small holes. Also NOT to belt / tape the tires, which will let them balloon due to inertia when spinning fast.
Yet you mention ballooning causing poor traction. Are you specifically referring to air being sucked in and not escaping causing them to puff out? Or do you recommend belting / taping?

I never vented my tires until one time my tires got so full of dirt that they were like bolders. Im not kidding they were hard as concrete. I also noticed the buggy lands a lot smoother now since there is a way for the air to escape after landing large jumps.
