OK, my local track accepts 17.5 for 'stock' racing. If you could get any 17.5 to go with the Tekin RS, it would be........

hard to beat the Novak Ballistic...you can change the stator for $30 and go from a 17.5 to a 13.5 or even lower....the lower the number of turns the faster the motor will be.

shameless plug

I have yet to try one, but it's on my short list. The Viper VST 17.5 that I run has great low-end torque in comparison to other motors I've run, and basically the "sealed can" concept is what drew me over (because one track I run had/has a lot of dust that gets into and damages electronics). It runs really cool and has crazy amounts of torque... It takes pretty high gearing to get it anywhere near a "normal" range (I generally run 75/30-33 in my SC10).

I'll be another +1 for the Tekin RS.

Mine has a Futaba BLS451 servo, Tekin RS, and the 17.5 I mentioned above for beginner and stock racing.

When you guys say Tekin RS, is it just RS or RS PRO? And man this shit is adding up. I've been looking at this stuff on Stormer Hobbies and all the electronics is going to cost well over what the truck cost. No wonder Castle Creations is so popular. I knew this was an expensive hobby but Geeze. Ok, I feel better now that I vented.:(

Most if not all tracks have a 17.5 class for 2WD SC, and it usually has the biggest turnout in my area. +1 for Novak Ballistic Spec, almost everyone I know uses it.

The RS. The RS pro allows you to use lower turn motors, that's all.

It does add up but you really only need to buy it once when you get the right stuff.
Oh yeh, you're gonna need a good Lipo or 2 and a charger and power supply. :(
Just sayin.

Tires, inserts...

Sorry man but if it's wrong you get to do it over, and over, and...

Go to your track, look around carefully, watch the races and don't be shy.
Copy what works there cuz asking here will get you stuff from our tracks.

Don't rule out some of the deals in the For Sale section thread here also.
Can get a lot of stuff in a package deal for a reasonable savings.

Yes, it does. The electronics in my SC10, just counting the servo, ESC, motor, receiver, and transponder cost over twice as much as the kit itself (batteries are a pretty sizable expense, too). The only upshot is that the parts are reusable and some could be used for many years in various vehicles (transponders, for example, last essentially forever). You probably don't need a transponder at first, but they're nice to have (and you can pick them up used for less than new, but not generally that much less than new because, as I said, they last forever).

I probably don't want to know what I've spent on everything so-far. It is a bit crazy...

Thanks to all for commenting, very useful information. I would love to see some pics of some SC10's. I'm new at this sport, but i've been into it since I was a kid. My friend had an RC10 when I was like 14, and I thought it was so cool. Back then you got a Novak SC, a Trinity (Insert Precious Stone) Motor, and a Futaba controller. Which reminds me, any suggestions for a good controller and reciever? Is Futaba still good? I'm looking for a good bang for the buck controller.

Best bang for the buck hands down is the Airtronics MX-3X. It uses the same FHSS-3 technology as the coveted M11X for a fraction of the price. Plus if you feel like upgrading to the M11X later, your car(s) will already be equipped with compatible receiver(s).

Here are some pics I posted over at the official SC Picture thread from this weekend's trophy race:

whats up with the hexes and new rims from associated, I heard they are coming out with a kit so you can run sc10 4x4 rims, like a proline kit. Is there anything to it or did I hear bs? Is the proline kit worth racing? does it do anything negative?

People have issues with the proline kit wobbling. The AE version should be available now, or shortly. I haven't checked in a while. The RS just came out so hopefully they'll have the spares available soon.

Edit: Bottom of the page, all of the RS parts, no pics yet. I checked some stores and they are all out of stock

Futaba makes good ones, but they're pricey. I run a Spektrum DX3R Pro, for backward-compatibility reasons (long story), but also because it's less than the Futaba I would have bought... Airtronics is also popular, but I am not as familiar with their offerings. People have joked about me running an AE car with a Spektrum (Horizon Hobbies) radio, but it's actually not that uncommon out there.
