Anyone have any thoughts/input on using a MIP Aluminum Top Shaft?

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXZM1&P=7

Seems that it would be lighter than the stock steel shaft and I like the idea of lowering weight in the tranny components but wonder about durability. I am switching over to the MIP Ball Diff if that makes any difference.

Done the idler gear in my truck. This might sound dumb but will this one work? It just doesnt look the same. Same part no. though.

I was wondering the same thing...

Held one in my hand and it's light weight is amazing. Doesn't Losi use a alu top shaft in their diff? Pretty sure they do, and I didn't have any issues when I ran them.

My concern would be that I know the keyed slipper plates put torsion loads on the top shaft - I can see the marks left from the plates. Now we might be introducing a top shaft this is of a similar or perhaps softer material that the slipper plates. I suppose if you installed one and monitored, just might be nothing to worry about.

It's the slipper plate wobbleing and rubbing an the Al shaft that would scare me. I think it'll handle the load, but slop would develope. A little bit of red locktight on the shft/sliper plate should keep them from wiggleing around and wearing.

Actually i'm running less internal limiters to provide more weight transfer to the rear when on power.

Not many long onpower sweepers that the Sc10 has trouble understeering through, and now it hooks up alot harder.

Ok, I have a box stock SC10 kit, and in a couple of weeks my club will be doing an indoor carpet race. This is my first offroad vehicle and I really don't know how to set it up properly.

I don't think any of the jumps will be too big, but my biggest concern is traction roll. I went to the LHS today and got myself a rear swaybar kit (Couldn't find one for the front though, wtf?) as well as some springs, 1 step stiffer front and rear. I plan to lower the ride height a bit too.

Does this all sound good? Should I get a front roll bar for carpet, or what? I've been trying to follow along with what has been said about them over the past couple of pages, but some of this is above my head. I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers on how to properly set this thing up for indoor carpet racing.

Thanks.

My experience with Carpet tells me that you are on the right track. Your biggest issues will be traction roll and pushing through turns. The rear sway bar helps a lot with that. I would start with the firmer springs in the rear only first. This will help you transfer weight to the front when you brake for turns helping you steer. The rear sway will both reduce rear traction and improve front traction. If you still have traction roll you could check out tires.

Good luck.

here are the part #LOSA9807 1 deg hub
LOSA9808 2 deg hub
LOSA2164 1/8x1.250 hinge pins
also needed 1/8 e-clips

I use the 1 deg with the losi hinge pins on mine and I've got plenty of rear traction on the clay surface.
Hope this helps:nod:

Ok, sounds good, thanks.

Any idea why I can't seem to find a front sway bar though? I think I found one for the b4 but that was it. I don't get it..
