It's the final that matters.

You know how this goes though, if there is reason to doubt, someone will eventually grouse about it. That said, I'm not inclined to be held hostage by someone's mental or emotional limitations.

You are an experienced racer and I take you to be a fair minded competitor. We can put it in your hands to show up with a combo that hits the spec.

Yep, if ya can hit 1.80...who cares. I can see someone complaining if someone shows up with 1.81, which for anyone who knows this motor knows it won't mean a damn thing. But in the spirit of rules...1.80 is the gearing. Hit it, you good.

There were a lot of unknowns speccing a specific spur and pinion. We were trying to follow what some of the big races had done...but I knew in the back of my mind that there would be some obscure car, or a total lack of parts availability and we'd be meeting this conversation all over again.

1.80 is good....which may be the Seahawks scoring average at the end of the season...go Hawks?!?!?

I think for now I will take my changes with TC 21.5, hopefully this class will come back to life this year. Plus hitting the wall harder is always better.

I mean, it's really not that hard to figure out. Here's a cheat sheet for all those "concerned"

Spur / Pinion
45 / 25
54 / 30
63 / 35
72 / 40
81 / 45
90 / 50

See the pattern?

For those more mathmatically minded....
Is the spur divisible by 9?
Is the pinion divisible by 5?
Is the pinion slightly more than half the value of the spur?

If all 3 are a go...their gear ratio is a go....

And as an added note...everyone at that group of tables is a special kind of worthy...ALL OF YOU...counting to 4 to ensure all the tires are on the car is an accomplishment....I'm waiting for the day someone forgets to put their body clips on...

Nice, I popped in here to ask exactly this question. Looks like I can get a 76T spur as the smallest for my gear diff. So with 76/42 that puts out a 1.809 ratio. I'm good or nah?

Hi Pete,

Since we're talking FDR, yes, you are good to go.

So, to be really clear, the minimum FDR is 1.80000...

1.799999... is a no-go. I'm not going to argue. Just drop a tooth.

Divide spur teeth by pinion teeth. Minimum 1.8000....infinity.

The tire diameter is fixed, so we don't need to do mess with rollouts and all the fancy pi stuff.

Sidebar confession: After many years, my mind goes to rollout when thinking pan cars. My first limbic response was, "No way!" But then my frontal lobe engaged and slowed the roll: "Hey genius, it's FDR not rollout, and that rollout would be way to small, even if it is in inches." You're good, Pete.
