Default Difference between 20% and 30% nitro fuel

I'm in the process of cleaning and re-shimming my motor but I'm kinda debating wether or not to add more shims to run 30% nitro. I called our hobby store which also runs the race program and they informed me that majority of the guys are running 30% nitro. Whats the pro's and con's for running 30% nnitro fuel versus 20%? The motor I have is a Novarossi .12 Max I think. It uses a P6 turbo glow plug.

Shorter run time with 30% compared to 20%.

Lem, just run 20%.......That engine would probably even run fine on 16%, but the difference in price between 20 and 30% verses run time/power output would give the nod to sticking w/20%! especially since we're just "Parking Lot Racing"! You will not be "Short on Power!

Thanks Lynn. Makes sense to run 20% since the motor is already shimmed for it. I ran into Franko today and he kinda gave me the nitro 101 today so my question was answered.

What about fuel brand? Are they all pretty much the same?

Agreed.

Engine temp will increase too.

piper48 : the most expensive fuel is runnertime. ( I assume the most expensive = the best ).

I use runnertime and o'donnel.

Can only .12 motors fit in an NT1?
What's the fastest motor that can fit the NT1 and what kind of speeds would i be looking at?

i'm looking more for a pure speed parking lot basher then a track car.
thanks.

technically the higher the nitro content the cooler the engine should run. But this also depends on tune, oil content. Sometimes high oil content fuels will make an engine run hotter.

If you go from 16% to 25% in many cases you will be faster and will run cooler.

18TZ will give you same power as mod.12, cost a lot less and last longer.

No, this is not a correct statement. The higher the nitro content, the hotter your engine will run. Your statement has been a bad misnomer that has been floating around the nitro r/c world for years. If you don't believe me, tune your engine to 16% nitro, run it for 5 minutes and take a temp. Then, do the same thing with higher nitro content fuels, not changing the setting, then take a temp after the same 5 minute run. The temps will be higher due to the higher detonation points of the various nitro percentages.
