WOW - away for the weekend, little testing, little attempt to catch up on sleep -- seems like neither worked lets answer some questions:

Graveyard - yes, send it in via the RMA process, we would be glad to take a look at it. We sometimes see that the bullet connectors come loose and create an arc between the plug and the holder, that arc measures a very high temp, which trips a cut off. If those lights are blinking as you described something is getting hot and causeing cut off. BTW I watched people with systems that cost 3x as much as Copperhead have the same issue over the weekend. It happens. Please feel free to send it in, it comes straight to my desk.

ridge - there is not an updated software for Copperhead series, what you have is what you have. If you need to reset your settings, they are all listed in your manual (or the one on the website).

Rapid, any motorized part in the system can cause a spike that effects the system - servo, motor, fan, speed control. Yes a servo can cause an low voltage spike. If you turn down your steering EPA to only the amount you need, it will save extra spiking - which adds up when you hit the throttle, land off a jump, try and steer, then slam on the brakes. Its amp draw overload!!

Stascom - I have seem measurements spiking over 200 amps

Thanks for the info. I'll check my EPA and I have a Spektrum voltage regulator on order for my servo....

Hey guys, FYI if you own a VTX8, and you ever use timing boost, it works great, but if one day you decide to disable it, you may experience a very very slow vehicle and every single component will get hot within seconds, put the boost timing back in, and it will be fine, or at least some timing, I have confirmed this with 2 different VTX8 controllers, so do not ignore the motor power disclaimer! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Both controllers are still working, though. And they still kick A$$!

I have never used boost with my 8th scale. Are you referring to 4x4 SCT? Please specify and list the rest of your settings, gearing, motor, etc. Adding boost is the quickest way to blow up you stuff if you aren't careful. Not saying you can't or shouldn't, just saying that you need to do it right.

Well, I gotta tell ya, I usually run 6-pole motors in my 1/8 buggy, and I have tested them to find that they only reach the top speed of a 4 pole when they have a lot of timing.. like up to 30 degrees, and they run cooler, but drink too much juice.Now In my car I have a 2050 6-pole, 14/45 gearing 60% punch and up to 7 degrees of timing from 20-30K. This seems to even the power out, And for some reason, has been very efficient for me. And is actually just normal top speeds with a lot of grunt.
But,in another 1/8 a 1900 4-pole with 17/46 gearing, 80%punch and 5 degrees of timing from 7-34K is being tested. Really, the timing was not wanted, but the esc insisted I keep it.
I have never used the top speed timing before btw.

That's good info. I just wanted to make sure that someone poor guy who never ran an 8th scale before didn't see that you were running boost and just figure he could slap a ton on. It's very situational and you should be very careful until you have a nice setup figured out.

Please keep us updated on your progress. I find it interesting.

After racing tonight my vst17.5 was coming off the track at about 148* is this to hot and my vtx10 was 102*? This is in my b4.2

some guy - VTX8 will run fine with our without timing as long as gearing and settings are accurate. Just be careful with the timing, its easy to go to far.

Mike - if it was quick at that temp your in really good shape!!

Graveyard - there is no charge for items under warranty. If its outside of warranty we will contact you directly.

Awesome! I didn't actually expect an answer. That seems consistent with my observation. Running 18T/47T in Prolite 4x4 was getting the ESC pretty warm (130F+). With 150A-rated Copperhead-R, that motor must've been pretty thirsty for electrons

Yup...out of warranty. Would I be better off just to bite the bullet and do the "trade in" ? I think thats 50 bucks.

Had to send in my copper head system yesterday it felt like it spun a magnet in the motor.... but at less there shop is only about 60 miles away from me and vipers turnaround time is really good....
