hey guys. i just had a question regarding the motor timing on the vst motors? what is considered 0* of timing? is it when the arrows are pointing at both 30 marks on the outside of the can? and which way would i turn it to increase timing on the motor?

Jamie, I reached out to Andrew to find out what he was finally geared at, when I find out I will post it.
moe - we dont show 0* because you wouldn't want to go that low. Turn the endbell so the arrow moves toward the 45* mark - sorry I dont' have a motor infront of me to tell you which direction it is.

I just wanted to tell you guys we had a great weekend at the SC Showdown event at RCE. I got to talk to a lot people interested in the products and hopefully they will be running right out to by them!!!
Mike Wilder finished second in SC Modified behind the legend Brian Kinwald. Mike used a VST 8.5 with his VTX10 esc set in the Modified Off-Road no boost profile. and 20* timing.
Royce Berrio finished 6th in Stock 17.5, he was using the VST17.5 with his VTX10 set in SPEC Off-Road No Boost profile geared 78-29.
I have some pics and a video of Royce's qualifying run I will try and post later today.
Thanks to Scott Ernst, Todd Anderson, his family and staff at RCE for a great event. 29 heats of SC action, easily a hundred people not racing, just spectating and watching the races. Car mfgs, gave out kits to spectators, we gave out motors to some customers - a great event, great time!!! Looking forward to round 2 at Trackside in WI, in June.

Weylin, what gearing were you running with this set up?
I had my buggy geared at 21/78 and i was talking to one of the local fast 2wd guys today ( he drives an RB5 with a 13.5 too ) before the quals started and he said i was under geared. He recommended going up a few teeth on the pinion. I did and up to 25/78 and it seemed fine, but lacked bottom end grunt. On the straight about 1/4 of the way down it really started to fly. Would dropping down to the 22 / 23 T pinion really have made that much of a difference? It was working ok, and I was having a real hard time with my new 4wd so i left it
Speaking of my 4wd. I was running a 13.5 in that too and it felt REAL slow compared to my 2wd. Hardly any bottom end and real slow down the straight...seemed to top out. I had it geared at 25/80 then went to 28/80. That seemed to help but, was not a whole lot better. I used to run a 10.5 in my B44 and it flew. I now have a different 4wd. Going from a 10.5 to a 13.5 should not have felt THAT much different should it?? I was not running a Viper ESC in my 4wd, it didn't get here in time. I was running an Orion Vortex Race Spec ESC.

A 13.5 is definitely slower than a 10.5, especially depending on your level of boost, but since you had the Orion esc in there I can't comment on that very well. Were you running any boost with the Orion esc?

Some motor manufactures consider the default end cap timing to be 0*, but in fact all 1/10 brushless motors have 30* of timing by default. We label our VST motors to reflect the actual timing, so the motors come with the default of 30* when the end cap is centered. Turning the end cap counter clockwise advances the timing. Turning the end cap clockwise retards the timing. There is a total range of +/-15* each direction, so from 15*-45* total.

I ran a 72/29 on my B4.1 with this, average size indoor track. And yes 2-3t will likely make a huge difference, especially with 48p.

I was having the issue with my 4wd, not my 2wd. My RB5 with the VTX10 and VST 13.5 was great. A little soft on the bottom end for my liking, but that could have been fixed easy enough. Comparing our gearing for our 2wd, it seems like I was under geared. I was concentrating more on the problems with my 4wd.
I bought the Orion second had a few years ago. It worked great with the Orion 10.5 I had it paired with. Finding any info or specs on the esc is next to impossible. All i could find was that the drive frequency has a linear decrease from 12.146kHz to 2.04kHz.
I tried everything from a 21 - 28T pinion with my 80T spur, it felt like it might have been a little better with the 28T. The gear ratio in my 4wd is 2.437

Are any of the sponsored drivers with a VTX10 ESC running a Savox Servo? I was wondering if there have been any brown-out problems like others have experienced with other ESC's and these servos. I'm not totally convinced its a BEC issue because my LRP ESC has only 5.5v/3A BEC and works fine with savox servos. Seems to be limited to Spektrum receivers. Any input? Curious because I plan on buying one of these units upon release.

Not having a SINGLE issue. I have run the caps on them and without, and never had a problem. I run KO and Futaba RX's.

Just want that to be a widely known fact
