MMP ESC or RX8 ? (opinions welcomed)
Tekin 4000KV Pro4 motor
Savox 1256TG servo
65C Stick Pack LiPo

Ideas, suggestions etc. I have always had good success with the MMP in my Ve8 running the T8 1900KV in sensored mode so that is why I was looking at one for this truck. Is the RX8 that much better? The RX8 just seems hard to find in stock.

Thanks in advance as I am sure I will have plenty more questions.
I think it is personal opinion really, with the MMP and a Savox servo you will probably have to add a cap since the Savox servo's are really power hungry. Your motor and lipo seem fine. But eventaully it is a good idea to switch to saddle's though. If you are familiar with the MMP I would go with the esc that you know works.

If going MMP get the BEC or maybe try a different servo that doesn't go above 3A in consumption. If your buying new packs for the truck, consider to saddle packs, seems to be the popular choice for best handling.

Yeah I had planned to run an external BEC if I went with the MMP. Maybe I will just wait it out for an RX8 as I still have to build the truck anyway so I have some time.

Saddle packs huh? Is there a mod that allows the use of saddle packs with the stock chassis? I don't want to buy a new aftermarket chassis when I am not even sure I will like running the truck.

Thanks again for ALL of you guys help. I really appreciate it.

Mizchief..I am also planning on running an MMP (extra I have laying around). As I've seen you post, should I pick up an external bec as well? I'll be using a 7955 and a pro4 4000kv. Thanks

Cameron.. I also will be using the three garodisc and a clutch basket. What is needed to be done to the dust cover? Thanks!

With saddle packs, you use the stock chassis, you have to buy the b44.1 saddle tray and battery post and thumb screws along with the battery straps and you are set.

Or another option you could buy the RcShox saddle tray.

Based on my experience I would with any beefy servo, but not sure if it would be an issue with that servo or not. Also, some have said that Spektrum uses a bit more juice than some other Rx's (please don't let this spark another 3 pages of spektrum bickering) so watch out for that.

I personally think the MMP is the best bang for the buck but the RX8 is a very good ESC as well. Pick your poison.

I am extremely happy with the Pro4 4K in this truck. The 4600 is overkill in this lighter 4x.

You do not need the torque of the Savox 1256. The 1258 has plenty of torque, is faster, and draws less power. If you decide to go with the MMP, you need to be selective on your servo choice. The internal BEC cannot keep up with high torque servos such as the 1256. I run torque limiting in the MMP to try and keep the internal BEC happy. Even the guys that run the RX8 I know run current limiting.

Any good lipo at 50C or better will be just fine. If you are racing you may want to think about inline saddle lipos. Truck is more balanced and less likely to traction roll.

Thanks for all of the help guys. Please keep it coming. I will definitely be looking into saddle packs as I don't mind buying new batteries if it helps the truck perform better.

Are there any pics or write ups on the mod that allows the use of saddle packs?

is there someone who already sells a modified chassis for saddle packs? I thought I saw that here once.

Also, anyone got a link to how to do the saddle pack mod?

i ran this for 2 months until my i got my new lrp stuff. it is the smoothest next to the TCspec IMO. and you wont have any trouble getting it to fit with any batt. configuration!

This is the company who makes a center chassis that is already pre drilled for saddle packs. But you have to use there saddle setup not the b44.1

Can you guys use a drill? Buy any saddle pack set up you want and drill holes for it! (it is only plastic, and cheap to replace)
