You don't even need to wait for the turnbuckle option though. Just buy some turnbuckles and ball ends...

It's not a simple case of harm vs no harm. Leaving it charged for any length of time harms it to some degree. The longer you leave it, the more you reduce the life of the pack.

I don't think it'll charge faster since there is no balance phase of the charge cycle. The only benefit of connecting balance leads is to be able to measure the IR of the cells.
