It only happened to me once, but cracked in two places on the pack, this all on the first run.
Yea I wasnt necessarily pointing you out. The best part is that even the $150 batteries crack so we are lucky to have SMC.

Does everyone know there is also RCKings batteries which are sold at LHS which are just rebranded SMCs?

What I'm doing to cause this?..... Umm, racing my buggy But for real, two packs, both purchased at the same time, used in the same Mugen eco buggy, with the same padded battery tray and strapped in as tight as I can get them, split open the case within the first race day. Not puffed and split, but where the two halves of the plastic case come together, the two pieces split apart, and I was told that would fall under the "damaged pack" 30% warranty. As of right now I have gorilla tape wrapped around the battery to hold the two halves together but needless to say, when its time for new batteries, they probably won't be SMC packs

Did you shoe goo the front of your battery tray? if not, you'll see how the plastic doesn't go all the way across to support the battery properly. it's a known issue with the eco. many packs get ruined by not fixing this. If you did not first correct this before running packs..... it's not SMC's fault.... it's yours and Mugen's.

I'm not trying to play the blame game or say that its 100% anyone's fault. All I'm saying is that I ran other packs (pro-tek and a gens ace) in the same car with no issues with them coming open or anything. I love the SMC packs performance so I'm not bashing them, sorry if it sounded like that. My gripe is why should I have to pay 70% of FULL PRICE (which is roughly 20% more than what the current price is) to replace two packs that as far as I'm concerned weren't sealed properly from new? I don't see my issue as being a "damaged" pack. They split open the first day at the track!!

I'm not sure what is exactly going on in your case but I do know that if the 6 ECO tray is not fixed properly.... it tears up packs of any brand. I run SMC packs and have zero issue in my ECO(I fixed tray). They are high quality packs. I'm guessing that you probably haven't fixed your tray and are seeing the consequences of that. It likely really isn't an SMC issue at all. It's a Mugen design flaw.... and it's damaging your packs. Of course there is the possibility that something was wrong with a new pack BUT two having the same issue is highly unlikely. You probably just got lucky that your other packs didn't see the same fate from the tray.

Also, how many other manufacturers will give you a nice discount on their product even if the damage has nothing to do with them? SMC takes a loss to try and help a little. That's pretty decent of them.

Instead of complaining about it here where Danny won't even see it, try their facebook page or find them on RCGROUPS.

The thing is I have already talked to him about it and when I heard that he wasn't going to do anything but the "damaged pack" warranty I decided I was just going to use my packs as is, taped up, then go with something else when the time comes.

These packs are very good. I have had the 5600 saddle packs, and they work very well. As new these took 5900+ mah and still after about 100 charges they took 5770 mah after I drove them to lvc in my 4x4sc with 6.5v lvc. I have three of the saddlepacks, and have been using them the whole summer in 4x4sc using a hungry 4 pole motor, and they still vork really good.

Anyone know if my 6500 70c batteries will cut it in my new SCTE I'm building or should I up to the 7200s?

Danny is being slow on the other site
