Depends on where you run. Most tracks have adopted the Roar blinky idea, but yes you can run boost with any of the higher turn stock motors.

Tried
SP V3 with 10 deg max phys timing geared 69/34...about 130f..decent
SP MMM with 20 deg timing green board 69/34 about 180f ...bit quicker
SP MMM with 11 deg...75/33 about 155f ...decent

Not sure where to gear the MMM...I experienced the same indoor on carpet running TC blinky. Way hotter than V3.
Good times yest at Stateline R/C in Fremont, IN. 215 entries for the Factory Tracks Midwest series! Long day with 23 heats in each round. Ended up locking up TQ after 3 rounds of qualifying in stock blinky buggy. Unfortunetly rains came heavy after the last heat. Race was called, but I left satisfied with a TQ. Track was huge 1/8 type.
I ended up running the 17.5 MMM geared at 75/33 with temps around 115f. Had maxed physical timing at 20 deg. on endbell. Dunno what I did different, but I did reshim the motor and added a milled motor plate for better cooling.

I am looking at getting another 17.5 motor for offroad racing, mostly on a medium large (24 second laps) loose dirt track. I have two V3 motors that I have upgraded the sensor on to get 30 degrees of timing and they have worked well, high gearing with acceptable temps. Should I get another V3 or would the MMM be a better motor for this application? What timing is recommended for your selection. Thanks!

What class? I believe the V3 is more torquey. I had great success in SC with one. I liked the MMM in buggy. I was running laps in the low 40 sec range. Lol. I will try the 30 deg. board next time.

Stock Truck, Blinky. By 30 deg. board do you mean one that has an upper end of 30 deg. or an upper end of 40 deg.?

21-30 deg green board. I used the 11-20 deg red that came with the MMM. I'd prolly use either. SC I would def go V3.

new sensor wire is what I would try first.

What motor are you wiring them to?

Have you checked any temperatures? If I'm following correctly that motor is a very poor choice for a relatively heavy RC like a SCTE. Virtually guarantee it's overheating. Better get a 550 size or at least a 4 pole motor.

Radiopost, open up your reciever and clean it out, there is most likely dirt in there.
