Well I ordered a V3 8.5t SP motor yesterday for this summer's outdoor racing with my B5 (no 17.5 class)...is SP replacing these motors? I ask because the pricing was SUPER cheap at $38 for the motor. If anyone is looking for SP motor deals hit the SP site...lots of models out of stock though. http://www.speedpassion.net/us/catag...e=1&c=mtr&sc=2

1. If I have an IPhone, which module should I buy?

2. If it's the wifi, does the module create it own wifi signal or do you have to be near one?

3. Can the module be mounted in the car?

4. What are the advantages of using the module over the LCD programing card?

Thanks

Anyone??

The WIFI module. The Bluetooth is for Android devices. You can mount it in the car, but if you do I would disable it while racing or practicing. Most I customers cars I have seen do not have it mounted, but some still do. I mounted mine in a 2wd buggy and a SC in the past with no issues.

Personally if you are concerned about damage, weight, balance or the likes just keep it in your pit bag and connect when you need it.

No announced plans at this time for replacement. It's just a great motor for a great price.

:)

What are the advantages with the wifi vs the lcd card?

the incubus 03-12-2014 12:06 PM

With the WIFI card you can literally make changes right from your smartphone, even while on track which is ideal because you can actually see/feel the difference immediately without having to go into the pits. The only catch at the moment is that it is only compatible with iOS 5 & 6. 7 is not yet supported but I can't imagine it will be too much longer before this is addressed.

Hopefully NEXUS can shed a little light on this for us.

I am an Apple Tech and only use iPhones and SP's ability to be programmed via my phone placed them at the top of my list of manufacturers to support. Nothing but excellent experiences with all 5 of my SP products. (3 ESC's and 2 V3 Motors)

Cool, My iPhone has the ios7 software currently...Does the iPhone and wifi module create their own wifi connection, or does the track have to have wifi? I'd really like to try this out. When SP supports the ios7, I'll probably by another Reventon for my 2wd buggy.
Thanks

I believe the module kicks out its own wifi discoverable signal. If you were a bashed at a park you likely wouldn't have access to a wifi signal so I'm betting SP took this into account when engineering the module.

Looking into getting a few and a another Reventon. Guess I should wait until ios7 is supported.
I have a SP Reventon pro. What's the difference between the pro and pro 1.1?

the incubus 03-12-2014 04:06 PM

Software and it now ncldes the program box so you can adjust settings and such without the need for a PC or smartphone. I have two 1.1 pros which took the place of RS Pros and my cars are as smooth and peppy as ever.

Absolute no reason to hold off. When iOS 7 support is introduced you'll simply be ready to get the wifi module.

thanks for the info. I'm leaning on picking up a new pro 1.1 I have a HW Just Stock in my 2wd buggy and have a few issues from time to time. I think there might be a small issue with the esc (only 45a) or the bec it has.

To answer your questions in order.
1. If you are using an Iphone for the wifi system you will need Part#SP00009 Goto the web sight and see the notations for operating system verison that are compatible.

2. Yes the wifi module creates its own hot spot and connects directly to your Iphone wirelessly. You will be able to make changes to the car/truck without having to hook up any wires or pull the body off.

3. Yes the module gets mounted inside the vehicle. There are a lot of videos on the web sight. Some are poor sound quality but you can still get a lot of info from watching. You can find the videos on the product page tab marked video or goto Youtube and find the speed passion page.

4. Well the major advantage in my opinion would be able to change to any available profile for your ESC. For example: if you were practicing for a race were using a profile with a Forward/Brake/Reverse setting. Then were at a race where you can't use reverse. You would simply open the Speed Passion program on your smart phone connect wirelessly to your vehicle. Upload the new profile and adjust your settings. If you didn't have the wifi module you would have to have at least a laptop with wifi access to change your profile and settings. Very trick high tech gadget. The only down side I see is its just one more thing to have wired into your vehicle.

There are many US retailers of Speed Passion components. I just purchased my Reventon Pro 1.1 & Blaze 550 motor from www.expressrchobbies.com They are located in Florida near Miami. from the time I placed my order to the time it arrived in my mailbox was three days. Not three weeks. Such would be the case if you were to purchase from an over seas retailer. ExpressRChobbies is a Ebay retailer as well. I saved $10 by purchasing the ESC through Ebay. There retail websight listed the ESC for $149.00 I purchased it on Ebay for $139.00 with free shipping. So search around even though the web sight might be out of stock another US retailer may have what your lookin for and at a cheeper price.

expressrchobbies.com is one of the best retailers for most things from Asia for RC.

To boot it is co-owned by a fellow RC racer and friend of mine, so by purchasing from them it means you're supporting one of our own.

Any word on when the SP wifi app will be updated so we can use our modules again?
