You need to get the v-link cable so you can hook the esc to your computer . I think it was like $16 from A-main. Super easy to update. Takes about 3 minutes.
Need to update my 10r Orange next. Just didn't want to because the fan port won't work after the upgrade. But the vipers really don't need a fan and as I mentioned the performance difference between a55 and a64 is amazing. Probable do the update before I swap it into my SC5M once it arrives.

What are the tall tale signs a motor is starting to die? I am trying to help my dad figure out why his 10.5 has very poor breaks. it still has punch on trottle but the brakes are just not there.....
Firmware- A64
ESC- vt10r orange
Motor- Track power 10.5
Raido- Futaba 4pls
I have tried profiles 1-2 and every other profile just to see. Brake strength from 80-100...at different frequencies with no effect.

I have never had an issue with brakes being weak on a vtx10/10R, as mentioned make sure calibrated at full throw. on my dx3r pro I have all sorts of brake things in the transmitter that I have to set to 0 or default before calibrations, I am unfamiliar with the radio mentioned, but make sure no fancy brake anything is activated in transmitter when calibrating.
As Bill mentioned, the EPA setting is important, if you set it higher than 100 there is too much "throw" for the brakes to work correctly, the software is designed at 100 for throttle and brake.
Once you have done that, Brake Strength 100, Brake Freq 4000. The Frequency will make a difference as the lower freq will give it more "bite". What's too low, well, there really isn't, it depends on the feel you want. When you start hearing the electronics squeal under braking, its really low -- to note another brand of esc is known for that, so it will give you an idea that they just pre-programmed the freq very low.
Now if you get to the point where you are locking tires up. You can back off the Freq slightly, back off EPA slightly, or a combo of both. Everyone is different in how they like the feel.

It is now resolved. Turns out it was a digital trim issue. Dt4 to be precise, it adjusts the trim strength of the break. I've never tinkered with that radio before so I learned something new! And best yet my pops will be glad it is working.

Im having an issue with my truggy stopping and needing a little push to get moving again. Ive adjusted my radio to prevent it from stopping but it still happends every once and a while. I can see the inputs of power/brake on the ESC registering (VTX8), next to the power switch, so Im hoping its a common problem with an easy fix. I just dont know if its a ESC, transmitter, reciever or wiring problem. Any advice would be appreciated!
