Viper RC -
Just had a little question.
I bought a new VTX10R BE with an EZ-link, now I don't know what to buy best, the progauge, or the PC Link.
The progauge has allot more features than the EZ-link, but you can't update the firmware with that, with the PC link you can. What is most important when I have a EZ-link already?

if your only going to get one, I would get the PC link. I used the computer to pre configure my 8 profiles. I run stock, so I setup my blinky, then saved it to the pc. Then loaded it into all 8 profiles. With blinky at profile 1, I then edited 2-5 to each have a slightly greater timing and boost. So 3 has more than 2 and 4 more than 3 etc. Then for profile 8, I setup my blinky profile and added reverse for practice. Most of the settings I already know what I want. I want a 6v bec, 100% punch, 12k pwm on throttle, no drag brake, dynamic braking off, auto esc turn off set to 10 minutes and so on. Once you find the base setting you like, you will rarely change them. If you only run blinky, you can do the same, but maybe have 3 profiles with different drag brake and 3 for different pwm configs. The you can quickly make changes based on need. The esc has 8 profiles, I rarely us more than 3-4. The PG is nice, but the PC link is mainly nice to save profiles to disk and update firmware.

Just picked up 2x Black Editions and VST 17.5 combo's. What gear should I run in my RB6 and RT6? I race medium sized indoor with a 75 ft. straight. Just looking for a baseline as I know they are sensitive to gearing. Thanks.
Just remember with the new a64 software - each profile is specifically patterned for a little different application:
Profile 1- Spec Off Road (10.5 to 21.5)
Profile 2 - Mod off road no boost
Profile 3 - Spec off road 13.5 boost
Profile 4 - Spec off road 17.5 boost
Profile 5 - Spec on road no-boost
Profile 6 - Mod on road no boost
Profile 7 - Spec on road boost
Profile 8 - Mod on road boost
Inside each of these profiles, besides all the things you can adjust like throttle freq, Punch, Brake, etc. -- the software is customized specifically for that application. Example - Profile 5 will deliver power at lower throttle than Profile 1, because in on road you typically have more traction than off road.

I would check to see what others are using at the track. Generally our VST motors are 1-2 teeth higher in ration than the rpm based motors like D3.5, Reedy, etc.
This is the kind of fun we were having at Cactus -- Nice catch Ty

Hello!
Just wanted to say thanks to Nick for being super helpful with my newbie questions!
Have finally installed my VTX8 in my Exo! First time I was soldering and programming an ESC (using the EZlink) and all seems to be working perfect and it looks just great
!!
I can't wait to equip all my RC's with Viper products
(sorry can't seem to post the image directly
)

So I was at the track last night. Another guy wanted to trade radios to check out my setup. I dont have issues letting experienced drivers test drive my cars. He was like WOW, your car is sooooo good. I told his what my base setup was and suggested that his ride height was too high, because I could not lay down any power with his car. It was breaking loose instantly. At first I thought it was his tires or setup, but then after a couple laps, I realized his car felt like an on/off switch. He told me it was an LRP sxx esc. I was always told they were smooth, but I think a lot of what he felt in my cars with the smooth throttle response. My viper feels sooooooo much smoother than that LRP SXX was. I originally thought he had a tekin, because they have that same on/off feel to me. maybe viper has just spoiled me with smooth throttle response
Same. And I was checking this thread to just get some quick help for a quick diagnostic. My EPA on my Spektrum DX3R is set to 150% F/B, and I programed it that way initially. Does the Viper prefer to be programed at 100% EPA setting? Thought I heard something about that??
Thanks for any help

Step 2 of instructions shows 100% on epa. I have seen a lot of problems with folks going above 100%.
Hey guys so I'm pretty much new to RC for the first time since being in my teens. I just bought a used vtx10 and 7.5t combo and wanting to know where I can find a list of the default EZ link settings (not sure if the previous owner changed them). Also it's going in an sc10.2 and I'm curious besides the default settings if anyone could give me some suggestions on a good place to start. The 2 tracks I'd mostly be racing on are completely different. The first is a large outdoor clay track with medium jumps. The other is a small concrete oval (I've watched them race the 2wd sct's there and it looks like insane chaos but they say it's really fun).
Sorry to throw in such newb questions. I tried looking through the thread a little but most of it was way over my level.
Thanks guys and anything else that could be helpful to a rookie would be much appreciated.

If you can find someone with a pc link you could reflash and restore the original settings. A 7.5 in an SC10.2 is going to be a lot of motor unless your name starts with Ryan and ends with Maifield. That being said, it's what I run in mine!! Punch control will be your friend. I rarely run my 7.5 over 60% punch (even on carpet). Even at that relatively low amount of punch I just ripped a bunch of teeth off my idler gear pulling wheelies off of a corner on a carpet track I run on. On our indoor clay medium bite track I am closer to 30-40% punch.

Thanks, yeah it's actually more motor than I had in mind but it was such a good deal on the combo the guy had for sale I couldn't pass it up. He did say he used it in a 2wd buggy and that he had profile 2 setup just for it with the punch exactly where you mentioned 30-40% so his #2 may be my best starting point.
Thanks again
trudgeP164- if you look on our website (address in my sig below), under your speed control is a link to download the manual, baseline setting are in there as well. Plus, it sounds like you have a idea what to use as a "jumping off point".
