Have a question regarding soldering the viper motors. Are you guys tinning both sides? Another thing that I've been having trouble with is getting the excess solder out those grooves in between the a to b tab and the b to c tab? Some people have told me tonight to get a soldering pump. I tried heating up the solder, but it just won't come off the middle completely and I don't want to short out the motor or esc. That's been really frustrating for some reason. On the tekin and and other motors with the flat tabs, I never had a problem getting those hooked on.

get the solder nice and hot on the tabs so its liquid form. then quickly pull off the iron and tap the ESC on a solid surface tabs facing down. then the solder will fall out and you can restart the soldering process this time using less solder on the tabs.

You could hit it with a blast of compressed air aimed in the right direction too.

You can also turn the motor upside down, get the solder melted and when you pull the iron away, the excess will stay on the iron. Do that quite often with the warranty motors - its amazing how much solder some people use on stuff. And yes, you can short it across poles if not careful.

Funny you mentioned not having issues with the "bent tab" solder poles. I have seen those touch together and short out, there was a version of Revtech motors that did it quite often.

For the brake conversation on the other page, the higher the brake freq is what makes the car harder to stop at "rolling speed", lower will help that. Also the "squeal" sound you hear, is actually the esc straining at that freq - means its too low or too high - in the example that was given would say too low.

I tried blasting it with compressed air, but no luck. Can that middle piece where the solder is in between the tabs be just fine? Neither the "A", "B", and "C" tabs are touching or solder connected to it. I just didn't want to go any further because I don't want to short either the motor or esc.

To much solder. Like I said. Get it all nice and hot in liquid form and quickly tap it on a solid surface tabs down and it will fall right off.

man you can always tell who used to run round cell / brushed motors LOL.

He's right. way too much. Hold it upside down, get it melted, flick it away. Just be mindful of where you are flicking it...LOL

I don't have much sensitivity in my finger tips from years of soldering brushes on motors. Those were fun days though. Kids today have it so easy lol
