Temps will be little higher in 4wd buggy compared to 2wd, that's natural, but those aren't bad numbers being kicked around there. If you get the speed you need at that temp -- all thumbs up!!!

84 GT - I will be honest - yes, compared to the VST motor, the other one you mention would be better right now. But wait til you see what's in the works :sneaky: (while all the rules nonsense has been going on - we have been testing and learning).

Wildcat -- Looks Good!!!! I may be slightly biased but I think our esc fits in the 22 better than most!! Its a shame they have those silly sponsor rules, would be interesting to see more TLR guys using our stuff -- might have to do something about that!!!

Wildcat1971 11-03-2013 12:05 PM

yeah, I like the way the esc fits. Not a lot of room for caps in the 22, so I like the orange esc with the low profile caps. simplifies the electronics.

Hey guys great thread!!
I have a question.
I will be piecing together a tekno sct410 and I am wondering would it be better to just go straight to a sensored set up or will the copperhead-r combo work well for me. Another question will the vtx10r have NO issues running a viper 4.5 550 can motor?
I'm new to electric and I want to give viper my first go around in electric. I've ran mostly nitro touring only electric I've ran was a tc3 with a Novak cyclone haha.
If I were to go name brand sensor-less I'm going copperhead-r comb, if sensored either vtx10r or vtx8 with 4.5 550 can or maybe that motor that is being released soon.
Thanks again.

The truck is too heavy for a vtx10r, get the vtx8 for the truck. For the motor, I always preferred 4 pole motors in the sc 4x4. Has Viper released theirs yet?

I am depressed... Have a little box going back to you guys at Viper. Just did the RMA process for my VTX8.....Quit in the middle of a race & wont turn the motor now, it wont communicate with proguage and wont shut off at the switch. motor works fine with the HW back up.....sucks. The HW 4000k motor doesnt run as strong with the HW sct esc as it does with my vtx8. Should have checked the warranty period too since I bought it in April, but its getting mailed in anyways. Anyone know how long the warranty is on the VTX8 ? Running it in a Tekno SCT410 and I need the power!

Get the VTX8 in the tekno, its da bomb. Dont let my RMA scare ya, they are a tank of a ESC, love mine, just comes under the heading of "stuff" happens. Its a BIG esc, but fits fine on the tekno esc plate. May want to use the mounting plate provided as it puts strain on sticky tape in a SC truck.LOL

It doesn't scare me, crap happens to the best of them.
To add to my questions though, I am getting back into RC, however haven't tried the racing aspect of things ..yet. Will I still have fun running a sensor-less set up with maybe a few runs on the track. I know, such a noob question, but I want to spend as little coinage as possible. I heard good things about the copperhead-r combos espesh for the price. I also heard hobby wings stuff is also good too.
If things get more serious i may just bite the bullet and go vtx8,how does the 4.5 motors fair in a sct410, and out of two which should i get 5.5 or 4.5?
Anyone run schuur speed motors, for sct?

Wildcat1971 11-03-2013 04:16 PM

The coppethead is fine and cheap

Hold on a minute!!! The VTX8 is sensored ONLY!! It wont work with a sensorless motor at all. FYI

nikos2002 11-03-2013 10:46 PM

sickpuppy- sorry to hear you had an issue, there is always an option. PM me for more info.

Yes, VTX8 is sensored only system. Gives you the the best of all possibilities - best throttle control, most efficient, better fine tuning options, and won't mask motor issues.

Copperhead is sensorless- but with our software design it feels like some sensored systems, better cost point, still powerful with options to fine tune.

VTX10R/VST4.5XL - is a 2 pole option for lighter weight 4wd SC like AE, Durango or Slash, but it was the 2011/2012 solution. Now with 4 pole technology you can't compare the two. If will give you a smooth controlled system for smaller indoor tracks

We are all about options.... Should be something for everyone.

ran the vrx10 for the first time with the viper 8.5 in my rb6 this weekend geared 23/76 and it was really good. Super smooth and very linear and easy to drive. It compares to my lrp reedy setups for sure. I ran the same setting as posted earlier in this thread that lee martin used at the worlds. Great stuff guys

DaveG28 11-04-2013 02:41 AM

I have a feeling we've discussed this before but what it the true max voltage of the vtx8 bec settings? 7v or does it go up to 8v?

Thanks!

Bob Barry 11-04-2013 07:54 AM

Dave, just clicked search and typed in BEC. ;)

I had an issue with my ESC, and sent it in for repair. I had a new one in hand in about 10 days. No hassles, no issues. great customer support. The EZ Link does allow you to upgrade software. I would recommend getting the progauge as well as it allows very fast trackside adjustments.
