Viper RC -

I was a fan of the term "orange army". We need a new Viper slogan now. Looks like it's currently "Performance Without Boundary". How about "Snakes On The Track"? Or what I like to tell the guy on the drivers stand next to me: "Pull my finger...".
I noticed a Viper guy sticking around to test after a good day of racing and I foolishly didn't stop over and see what was up. Should have realized that he might have been working with one of these new motors.

Not sure about the combos yet Holeshot. Nick will have to chime in on that one.
bds, yeah if you see someone you think is running one, definitely walk over and check it out. Ask some questions. Once I have mine, I'll gladly let guys try it out.

bds- "with the orange army" actually started with I ran TQ Racing, because our shirts were bright orange, and at races it would look like a little army of people going to and from the track. "Performance without Boundary" is a slogan we have been using for little while. Recently we added "The New Standard" for our 1/8 line.
When the motors first come out they will be sold individually - no combo packs planned until we see that there is really a demand for them (i.e. retailers start asking).

I have a new Durango DEX408T truggy with a Viper VTX8 ESC, would the 1900kv be best for this? (been waiting on your motors to come out so I can finish it)
Thanks!

hdmm - not long -- I hate to give any dates, because you never know with shipping and customs delays and things that always seem to pop up with people are waiting. But we wouldn't be releasing all the info, pics, and details if it wasn't getting closer everyday.

What should I have my motor temp shut off set at for a VTX8/VST4.5XL? Today during practice I had it set at 170 and it shut down. Then I bumped it up to 190 and it was fine until 7 minutes into the main then it shut down again. I am using profile 4 and 13/40 gearing in a SCTE 2.0. Also, the ambient temp was about 65 degrees. Thanks.

The temperature sensor reads off the rotor of the motor, which can be 60-70º hotter than the outside of the can. For club racing, I will normally set mine at 220-230º. Big races, disable it and monitor with a temp gun. Under normal circumstances I would think you should be OK on motor temp for 7-8 minutes with that gear ratio, motor and truck. Did you measure the temp with a temp gun on the can?

I just put Copperhead-R 5150kV combo into my Rally. Ran 14T/52T gears with buggy slicks (slightly smaller diameter than SCT wheels). Fan on the motor. 95F outside, 130F asphalt. After half a dozen back and forth WOT runs the ESC got up to 180F O.O Motor didn't even break 140F. Is this normal? I ran SCT Pro (120A) with 4000kV SC411 Tenshock geared 17/50 in the same vehicle and never got above 150F on the ESC. The motor was past 180F a few times though. The Copperhead-R is a 150A ESC, I expected it to run cooler. Geared for the same speed, VX4 motor feels slower than Tenshock, so I don't imagine it being a huge power hog. I tried lowering timing, punch, and start power. Neither made substantial difference.

bds - lower motor timing some will give it little extra bottom end. Also lowering Throttle PWM slightly. 1 or 2 teeth lower in gear will help as well. Believe it or not, you can also try some different chassis settings to help get more forward traction, as this will help put the power to the ground.
Jamie - yes the ProGauge (and EZ Link) will work with all current Viper speed controls. On the Caster forum PM "bring it on" (Rick Jenkins) he developed the Caster 4wd SC using Viper electronics. Sure he would be able to make lots of suggestions!!!
xxxn- yes, bec is at times an item that fails, but generally not causing the unit to go into the "reset" that some encounter.

I find it easier to leave the forward power at 100% on the esc and use the travel adjustment on your radio. That way you can do the adjustment as you need it. Lower your throttle punch on the esc though.
