I was running that motor with the Copperhead R system and after a few packs of runtime and monitoring temps(always motor temps 130-145) when you power on the esc it would take forever to get the throttle to work. The steering would work instantly but now when you put a fresh pack in and power it on it takes about 5-6 trigger pulls before you get any throttle. I have hooked up the progauge and double checked everything and re calibrated it to the radio and still didn't take care of it. I checked over all the wiring and even installed a new Tenshock 4600kv motor instead of the Viper and it still happens.

Do I need to worry about the lag before it powers the motor or send the esc in for it to be looked at? Also what is the standard cost for a look over or replacement for the copperhead R esc?

thanks,
Matt

It takes a few seconds for any of our esc's to give power to the motor. Trade in for that esc is $50 plus $5 shipping. http://www.viper-rc.com/tradein.php

The esc performs excellent after it starts giving power and I'm used to the beeping once you turn it on and the few seconds but lately it's taking around 10 or so seconds before it gives throttle power. I will continue running it and if it eventually messes up completely I will do the trade-in. Thanks for showing me that I didn't even know ya'll did a trade-in program.....

MattP - almost sounds like the speed control can not detect the neutral setting on the radio. Try moving the throttle trim up 3-4 clicks and re-calibrate, change models on your radio (if you have one that does that), or even re-bind your tx and rx. All are things that could help. The start up program does take about 10-15 seconds to run. It will play a little tune, then blink to show you what profile you are on.

JK, your situation sounds a bit like a voltage spike, the esc will reset because the spike hits the low voltage cut off. Multiple reasons what that can happen, it you feel it happening more often, lower the Punch and Motor Timing slightly in the settings. Everything from a hard landing to a drop in the battery pack can cause that.

Thanks for the quick reply Nikos!

I'll try toning down the settings on the esc and see how it goes. Hopefully this will be an isolated incident.

Gotta say tho, other than the issues this weekend, the VX4R.45 combo has been absolutely amazing! It HAS to be the BEST bang for the buck out there right now.

Default It's all good

@Nikos
I just wanted to check in and tell you that the vtx10r/vst combo is o u t s t a n d i n g ! ! ! Super smooth and plenty of power. No problems calibrating the esc to the tx either

The copperhead hasn't found a suitable mate yet, but I've something in the works

I also wanted the thank you again for your personal service, quick turnaround, and excellent communication. I can't count on more than one hand the number of companies that go out of their way (much less answer an email...) to handle customer issues with such honesty and fairness and I wanted it to be known for all. Cheers!

Very Satisfied Viper Customer,

Interesting. Can you tell the difference before and after? Lower temps? Different subjective feel? A review, please. Thanks.

Thanks festusss, appreciate the kind words. The goal of our company is to provide as quality a service as we do a product. Keep working on it everyday!!

JK - its a pretty awesome bang for the buck, performance much better than the price tag. The power and the smoother throttle control always get me with that system, some wouldn't be able tell its sensor less.

sapperc - we will have guys starting to test with it more this weekend. Our initial testing really centered around the performance advantage, the extra punch it provided. Those tests really didn't show any difference in temps, but it was also not the focus.

ok, I am looking to smooth out my power band on the viper. I went 16k on the throttle pwm and 60% punch for 13.5 buggy. Thoughts?

I ran one in a Tekno which is much heavier then the Durango. You should have no problems.

When you say smooth out what are you looking for? Less rip off the line, too much rev up?

My Pro9 cap mounted in my Hot Bodies VE8 Tekno. Looking forward to doing some testing on it.
