I believe you need to keep the middle wire in the middle, but you can switch the other 2 to change direction.

two questions about my new viper vtx10r esc
1. it has a30 software. is it good to go to a55. will I see any benefits. it has the 2 silver caps on it
2. I am running a 8.5 in a 4wd buggy. what timing should I use to try boosted setup. it is a b44.2 running 21/81 gearing with 20 degrees on can

corn- there isn't one "magic bullet" set up when it comes to boost there are a lot of factors. It takes a little time and a little testing. Here is the best description I have ever found of developing a boosted set up. Yes the ratios are different because of the motor, but the idea is the same.

corn - sorry forgot to answer the first part. Yes, a55 is an improvement over a30. We learned more about increasing power delivery and keeping smooth throttle feel.
shagnet - thanks!! but credit goes to Dave Beam, he did a great job explaining the process.
BTW, huge congrats to Paul Sinclair who's XFactory's dominated the Thunder R/C Winter Champs. But I wanted to mention that Paul pointe out that he lowered his gear ratio about 3 teeth, added a small amount of boost and timing - and ultimately went faster, running cooler temps. So when its done right, boost can really help, but you have to take your time, watch your temps and test a little to find what works best for you.

I'm looking to change to a 10r with a 550 motor when I get my SCTe 2.0. That setup felt so smooth compared to the copperhead and had better top end. It made it very easy to judge jump speed and corner speed. The braking was better. Very linear/consistent.

kid--- I would look at the VTX8. Yes, it's bigger, but with the 10R your pushing the upper envelope of its margin. It's been great and hold up very well with 2 pole motors. But the 8 will be much better with its capability to also handle 4 pole motors as your racing needs change. In the world of 4wd SC trucks, the little extra weight or possible savings won't make that much of a difference.
You one thing we see is that some people look at 1/8 speed controls as disposable units - use them til they blow and get another. That is not our take. We want racers to have a unit that provides performance and lasts as well.
