I think a plan of attack is dropping down a tooth on the pinion.

Do you know your "roll-out"?

If you are geared a little high, you could probably drop 5-10 degrees out of the motor and not really feel any change.

I know one AE driver that gears about 2 teeth too high, but runs 15-20 degrees on his LRP motors to make the motors more smooth. Some others have been using smaller rotors in their mod motors to make a mellower powerband. I know of at least 2 of our drivers have tried that and liked it.

Ok, so Im at 19/86 with 2.43 trans ratio which gives a FDR = 10.998 which gives about 150F + in motor temps.
Roll out is 345.4mm. Divided by 10.998 = 31.40mm. So the truck travels 31.40mm for each turn of the pinion.

OK finally got my Copperhead 5150 system to drop into my Losi SCTE. I'm going to start with a 14t pinion. Is it ok just to start with the default setting on the ESC?

I will be running on a large in-door track with high bite.

OK, I just got my viper vtx10r 6.5T combo in my dex410 geared 19/76, no over heating issues, but for some reason during my last run it shut off, still had steering. I though my battery had dumped, but upon checking the battery, it wasn't low. I recharged the battery and then fired her up, and now the ESC keeps on restarting?! I tried to recalibrating it to a different channel, but it did nothing, what could the problem be?

It only restarts after I give the remote throttle. When it restarts, it flashes the red and orange lights 4 times....

I got my Viper VTX10r/VST6.5 combo in today (Thumbs up for Viper taking care of the military). I must say I was worried comparing the magnet strength of the reedy sonic and the viper. Seemed the 6.5 magnet was much weaker which seems to translate to a much less torquey and powerful motor. All that was moot once I powered the motor up, clearly more power than my Sonic 7.5, the ESC is the star of the show though, so many features in much a small form factor.

Great work Viper!

Yes should be fine but always check temps...
I took out my friends old Jammin that has a copperhead system in it to retest it as I'm getting a 4wd sc soon and trying to see what system I want to run. I let to other fast drivers run it to tell me what they think of the system and both said it was super smooth and couldn't believe it was unsensored. The truck isn't that good and I can't wait to get a real one but I think I will run the copperhead system for now in mine. 8 minute main motor was 150 and esc 110
Even with a Jammin I took 3rd

I ran a 14t pinion on mine with no heat issues at all. I have the ESC pushed up to 100% and it rips hard with no heat. I am going to throw a 15t on next weekend.

Dang! I just made a test run up the street with my new VTX8 and 4.5 XL 550 motor in my SCTE. HOLY CRUD! That thing, with a 14t pinion, is the fastest MPH RC car I have ever taken on a test run. Man! I can't explain how much torque and how hard this thing pulls through the power band and gets up to the top end so quickly. I will drop a couple teeth off the pinion before running it on the track or it will be too ballistic. The speedo is still set to 80% also! Well done, Viper!

Sunoco- in the middle of a redesign- first batch didn't cut the mustard. Test motors were good, but we stopped to focus on 540 motors now we are waiting on ROAR, don't know what will happen with rules.

It's tripping one of the cut offs. Check battery, motor temp and esc temp cut offs. In 4wd I run battery cut off at 6.4 (but some are testing at 6), motor temp- disabled and esc temp at 240. Now these are set with racing in mind. Not going to try and run 15 minutes straight, just the length of a heat race or main. And checking temps when first set up to be cautious and understand temp range.

The ESC does this with a fully charged battery upon start up. I swapped out to a different ESC and had no issues, same batteries and connectors.
I only race, and am very conscientious of temps and voltage. I also monitor run times....

Are the VX4R.45 motors available without the esc? If not, which of the other Viper motors is closest to it performance wise?
