Im not too familiar with the B44, but the B4 is probably geared about a tooth too high, but I dont know the timing etc..... that you are using either on the motor or on the ESC.

Do you have temps from the ESC and Motor after a 5 or 6 minute run?

nikos2002 04-25-2012 02:42 PM

For a normal 5-7 minute run I don't think you would need a fan for the b4 - I have never used a fan on any 2wd. Stock or mod, inside or outside.

In 4wd- it could go either way, without a fan, you can open up holes in the body to get air flow. I ran a 7.5 last year outside in 85-90 heat and it wasn't an issue unless I ran too long.

If you were running 4wd SC that might be different but in recent testing I ran for 10 minutes with a 5.0L and the esc temps was 165. Ran another 2 minutes temps went up to 190 - it was time to stop there. It was about 80* outside and I was really gassing the truck a lot to see how hot I could get it.

Hi guys. I bought a Viper VTX10 8.5 combo about 2 weeks ago and I absolutely loved it. Running it in my SC10 in pro2 and it's the smoothest ESC/Motor I've ever owned.

However, I'm now having a problem. Whenver I go over any bumps or land jumps, the truck is going completely dead for 2-3 seconds, then power comes back and I can drive again. Anytime there is any kind of impact, the truck goes dead, then comes back.

I'm not doin anything crazy with it, I only race with this truc so It's never gotten wet, been running high quality 2s lipos in it, never got it hot, the hottest the motor has ever been thus far is like 130 and the ESC is always cooler than that.

I've checked (and had other more experienced guys check) my solders, everything looks fine, but same result.

I've tried different batteries, same result.

I've changed the receiver (Airtronics), same result.

I've changed the sensor wire, same result.

I'm out of ideas, anyone have any?

Had a buddy with the same problem. Check it it's in the Stock profile. I moved it from that to the Race Mod profile and it stopped doing it...I know strange.

So we are starting to revive the 4wd buggy class at our track and I put a couple of packs thru the car last night for testing. The car was planted and extremely fast. I was pleased. The ESC temps stayed down for the most part. I let a Kyosho driver take it around for a few laps and the first words out of his mouth was " what ESC do you have in here? This is the smoothest speedo I have even driven." I answered Viper and he was amazed. He said it was incredible. He runs Orion R10 Pro's in his vehicles and said the Viper was superior in smoothness. I couldn't disagree with him. He was 100% correct. I am hoping once his stuff blows up, hehe he switches to Viper. Many people have asked why I drive with a Viper and now a couple more people more. I love the product. It's awesome and I'm more than willing to let people drive just to feel the smoothness of the ESC. Hope to add a few more customers to Vipers list soon.

Can someone compare the VST4.5T XL 550 vs the Novak Ballistic 4.5T 550? Thanks.

Absolutely, faster and more reliable. I ran one in my SCTE and would get comments every time I raced at how fast my truck looked from fellow racers.

Maple- I had an outdoor track I ran at that the sensor wire kept coming out of the esc on hard landings from jumps or crashes. I actually put servo tape around the connection to hold it in. It would be strange for the settings to cause that - but anything is possible with electronics.

jerk- glad to hear you like it!! Funny how people may downplay something new or different until they try it. One track I went to all the 'hot shots' down play our stuff. But at big races or travel races they go to Viper products beat them. But it's still slow. We'll keep working on it - cool stuff in the pipeline!!!

Devigil22- I haven't run the Novak, but I race with a factory driver who uses one and our motor is on par with power and rpm - I just wish I could drive like he does . I have had others tell me our motor has a smoother powerband.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I will try both of those.

Like I said, I love this setup, I have no complaints. This doesn't even seem like a failure on vipers end, just like something weird is causing it that I cant figure out. I just want it to work! :P

Is the VX4 speed control water resistant like VTX?

Jtipsy 04-26-2012 08:12 PM

Any ideal when the 1/8th scale esc will be out. New truggy sitting here with hobbywing esc and would love to put a viper in to match the truggy motor in it.

bring it on 04-26-2012 10:27 PM

Still doing the final stages of testing to make sure everything is on the money. Thus far, they are very good.

I believe it's water 'resistent', not water 'proof'. Drive around the puddle, not through it!!
