Viper RC --googleearth_image.jpgHi i'm racing on road MOD in Australia and have purchased a VTX10R speedie to try. Currently running a TOP Photon with 4.0 turn motor with LRP speedie with a FDR of 7.9.

The track is quite big with long straight with a few tight turns. Photo of track attached

Would really appreciate a heads up on a starting point set up including a recommended FDR. Also is there any particular brand motor that performs better with the speedie. Thanks

I hope I didnt make a mistake. I just ordered the 6.5T vtx10 combo for my
4wd 10th scale kyosho fs2 buggy. After reading this thread do you guys think im going to have esc temp problems?
My preivous castle combo which was like 4 years old ate shit yesterday. I had it in my b44 running 17/81 and the motor came off at 150 and the esc at 170, no matter what I did with the gearing, the temps of hte esc would not budge.

I got my new buggy put together and threw in the castle system and withing 5 min the entire system kept shutting down, motor was at 150-160 esc at 180+ this was with 17/78 stock gearing.

I plan on running 17/78 on the viper 6.5 vtx10 combo, anybody have an experience with this?

You will be fine if you turn the temp shutoff's up. It may get a little warm, but you should be fine.

If temps really become an issue you can increase the throttle PWM freq. and lower brake %. Temps should drop.

We are on hold for a bit with the L motors due to the rare earth magnet issue. We are unable to produce rotors. We have been exploring other options and should be good in a few weeks. This is not stating that the L motors will be out in three weeks but we should have a better idea of when we will be releasing them. We are at the mercy of the suppliers for our magnets.

How does the vtx10r compare to the tekin RS?? Im looking at ESC for 2wd mod and 4wd 17.5 TC. Im really wanting something other then tekin of course i need a ESC that is smooth for me to be able to run mod 2wd buggy and then im also on the aggressive side for the TC. Will this ESC out perform the tekin in speed and reliability? very curious about viper.

as far as outperform, thats all in the users oppinion, however this esc can give you plenty of power, probably more than you will ever need, and still be smooth as butter

What up DUB? Best esc there is. I went from tekin to viper and tq'ed and won the state champs here with no testing it's that good and easy. By far the smoothest I've used. Of course this is all tc based as it's just sitting in my 22 unused. The customer service and ease of use will make it tons better then other esc's.

Thanks,
DC

I finally got the Viper Buggy motor in. Packaging is excellent and delivery service is top notch. I will post more once I get some free time.

It's rated at 1800kV
2 Pole rotor with 3 slot stator
5mm Pinion shaft
7.35mm Rotor shaft cut down to 5mm in the front
4.47mm Rotor shaft in the rear. So rear bearing is smaller than the front.
45.04mm Magnet length
13.82mm Magnet diameter

The motor feels notchy.
The back cover is plastic.
The sensor is replaceable.
The rear has a rubber seal.
Assembly is very good.
Front motor screws are 2mm and the rear are 1.5mm hex.
Heavy copper tabs.
Front has shims and spring assembly.

Update:
Ran the motor at nite and still 100F outside. The motor is what I expected to be. It has a bit more power then the LRP 1/8 motor. I couldn't get it started in sensored mode with the RX8, so I just ran it in sensorless mode. The RX8 started up the motor just fine. I'll check later if it was my sensor cable or maybe just a bad sensor.

I just ran the GTP up and down the street. The power was nice and smooth and braking was strong with my gearing. I did some hard starts and hard braking just to see how the motor would do. The motor was @ 176F and the ESC was @ 107F.

My conclusion so far; This motor is good for a light 1/8 scale car or when the weather is cold. Power band is smooth making for easy driving. I still need to figure out the sensor issue.

Tekin RX8 ESC 107F after the run
Motor 176F
9min 15s
154A peak
2245W Peak
26.39A avg
408W avg
1384mah consumed
47/21 gearing
GRP tires @ 100F 9.20PM
Protoform body
Eagletree V4
EC5 connectors
Acepow hardcase 5000mah
6mm bullets
