Right on Matt. I always try and help customers and others with tuning etc when I can, but sometimes you just canīt fit it all in without it being detrimental to your own racing.
Hmm, I holding off on the GXII inferno. I wasn't meaning you had adjusted the idle yourself, but looking at the low speed needle in the pics, there is no way that puppy would sit there idling with the LSN screwed out like that without the idle gap being a little too wide. Maybe it came from the factory like that ? Every motor I have ever run-in needed the idle gap cranked up some for the first few tanks to keep them running - which is cool when you are running rich during the run-in period, but when it comes time for race tune, that idle gap needs to be knocked right back. With the longer needle carbs (or standard needle carbs for that matter), the relationship between the idle gap and the low speed needle setting is critical and must always be balanced out when making adjustments to either.
I am sure when you do the pinch test you will find it chirps up to pretty high revs, requiring a tweak or two on the idle screw to set things right.

Well got my motor all back together with the help of shane [cheers man] had my first run today at hamilton track but was having heaps of trouble with the tune always changing just the low end would always fatten up evertime i restarted it from a good tune, i had to turn in the lowspeed needle 3 full turns to stop boggin down, also blew 2 glow plugs witch has never happened before so was thinking my motor might be low in compresion causing all my trouble and not enough head shims? but if my motor was low in compression would it still blow glow plugs like that? it still has resistance when turning flywheel when in truggy thow, how do i tell if it is low in compresion? got it to last the main at least.
And on a good note won the A truggy final today had an awsome run am stocked with that even with tune trouble YEH HA

Check the compression by taking the motor out of the car when itīs cold and holding the motor by the flywheel. Tilt it over to one side. If it will hold itīs own weight without slowly turning over and flopping to the bottom then the compression should be ok. If it will hold itīs own weight with the pipe still attached it is sweet. If it wonīt hold itīs own weight and just turns over either slowly or quickly, then itīs time for a pinch, or a new PRS set. or a new GXII-5RHO

Nice effort with the win mate. It must have been running half decent to pull that off

Keep with it speed demon, you'l get it, one thing to remember is if in daubt, richen high end to flush and start all over again with the bottom end first and only once that is happy can you start going in on top in small adjustments untill you start getting power, do 2-3 consecutive tanks to saturate the chassis with heat before fine tuning for optimum race tune.

Yeh that was massive adjustment with low speed needle but if i didnt have it in that far i would not idle and just cut out when hitting throttle it was like a new motor setting just choking up it was that rich until i got to 3 turns in, i ran a full tank out once i got it to run ok [still a little rich on bottom] just because the most i would usually have to turn in would be 1.5 turns max from flush and seem to run ok didnt lean out if anything got richer, i tune my motor exactly like you posted hsn was just under flush idle gap was set by pinch test [first] then set lsn last but i think the compresion would be getting low as it only holds it weight on its side [without pipe] for a few seconds then drops, i think i might have to send it up to you and you can check it out and if you think it would be ok give it a pinch as no point gettin new psr as i am wanting the GXII-5RHO
in a couple of months anyway and would just keep this for a backup engine [got to wait a couple of months to keep mum happy]

Cheers flanno i won't be giving up on these go engines
they are great out of a hole season racing this is the first time with issues so its done heaps of hard work so im more than happy with its performance usually they are great to tune i think these are the easiest motors i have had yet to tune thats why i think its not tune related but low compression or something like that.
