You will find a noticible increase in sharpness and power once you remove the .2mm break-in shim. So hang onto your hat !!!!!

Default shimming

Hi Grizz,

This is Raffy Abello from the Philippines, I'm running for GO for the 2011 season. My GXII came with .5 shims installed. Been using it this way - getting roughly 11 mins/tank running full bore (25% nitro). Just wondering what shims you guys run down under.

Hi Raffy, On the GX Series most guys were removing 1 x .1mm shim from the motors after they were fully run in, so were running .4mm shim stack.
This gave a small increase in run time and a little more low down power, plus slightly cooler pipe temps. Guys were running up to 30% with this configuration using a medium temp plug no problems.

We haven't experimented with the GXII yet. We only have two motors that have been run enough to start removing shims (the earlier team driver motors), but we just haven't got around to any testing yet. Performance is very nice as they are. My first order of production motors arrived and was shipped out to customers last Tuesday, so I am guessing in a few weeks time when the boys have put some fuel through their motors they will start tinkering . Will post on here if we find anything worthwhile.

I have done a lot of shim testing on the GX5R motor and I personally love the. 5mm of shims....but that's just me

Hi Inferno...looks to me your bottom end is still fat, all my engines are flush and below flush on the bottom end needle, and your top end needs to come out a whole 1/2 turn going by the photos.

Richen the top end and redo the bottom end using Grizz's tuning tips.

Grizz can you post the link for him bud.

Cheers for the link Matt

I realy need to get that tuning video done, so people can see what I'm doing, what to listen for etc etc...........

I just ran in and tuned from scratch 2 engines in the last 3 weeks.
If only I had access to a video camera
