Hi guys hay i have a question, i have a go gx5r and was trying to get rear bearing out using the heat method [have not replaced bearings before] and was super tight heated up for about 15-20 mins in oven to try and get out anyway finally got it out but noticed some scratches inside crankcase were backing plate goes into, will this cause any issues or will it be alright to use still i have sanded the high spots so nothing will catch. any help would be great and tips on what i should have done thanks

Since your in NZ, hopefully Grizz will see this one..............it depends where, what angle, how deep etc as to wether or not you may get an air leek there now, you may need to use an engine sealant if it is where is supposed to be sealed by the O ring ?????

Telling you what you should have done differently would depend on how you did it, you only mentioned the heat method, but you didn't mention how you managed to scratch it.

Hi mate,

As Flanno said, if you can throw up a picture it would be great.
Otherwise I don't think you will have a problem, as the O Ring seal on the back plate seals that area very well. As long as there are no gouges under the O Ring area you should be right.

Next time you want any bearings done, just post the motor to us at GO Racing NZ. We will replace the bearings and give the motor a good look over at the same time for a minimal fee of $15 inc gst (plus the cost of the bearings of course ).

yeh i didnt say how i got the scratches did i! i didnt want to sound like a tool anyway i heated the block up for about 20 mins at 180 in oven and taped the back of block on a wooden board to pop out but it came out sideways an got stuck half way out so heated back up but wouldnt budge so me being impatient i grabed the bearing with pliers [stupid move] and thats how i got scratches in block but got bearing out ha ha as for photos i am not very computer minded at all!! so thats way to complex for me.


hay grizz1 yeh i think i will do that next time i like to do try things for myself but i will leave this to the experts i think, i live in matamata and am a member of the hamiton rc club am there every race day when its not raining!

I don't think those scratches will cause any problems.
Do you have new bearings ready to go in ?
If you don't, I have a perfectly good 2nd hand crankcase with two new bearings installed that you can have for the cost of the bearings if you want ? That will save you fighting with it to get the new bearings in as well.
Then you can just keep that case as a spare. Let me know and I can post it down.

the 2 on the bottom (3rd picture) look quite deep I think Grizz ? and go rite across where the O ring should seal, I wouldn't be too confident of a good seal and the offer for the case sounds like the better option.
I personaly wouldn't use the scratched case without using a engine sealant as security.

Turns out we pit about 20 metres away from each other normally at the Hamilton track. Paul drives a mean truggy, and gets his GX-5R powered D8 around the track real quick

Scratches look cosmetic to me. Not enough to create a leak.

However. Look real closely at the part of the case that the rear bearing pushes up against. Theres visible scarring. Also, the reddish brown deposits have me wondering what fuel you're running, as well as air filters. Please post pics of your piston, sleeve, and crank. I'm interested in deposits on all of the above, and condition of the surfaces.

actually... pls dont mention your fuel manufacturer. I dont want to start another pissing contest. Please try another brand of fuel. I suggest this because I believe those deposits on your case are parafins- i.e. cheap wax lubricants. Your fuel should not be leaving reddish brown deposits on your case like that. The surfaces of the case ports are actually honed (super smooth), which makes it difficult for most anything to stick.

Again, please try another brand of fuel.

The case and rear bearing are very close to the exact same size. Of course, if the bearing is at an unnatural angle when removing, it becomes lodged because of the larger diameter now required. Pulling the bearing out while "skewed" stretches the rear of the case ever so slightly.
