Looked through this thread a decent amount and didn't really get a clear answer on what I was looking for. So, I have been running a olser P5XS for some time now with a J-P3 pipe which gets the job done, but I feel there is more than likely something better for it out there. I typically run a mediumish size track. What nova header/pipe combo is best for this motor? Thanks

The only OS engine I know of that is spinstart capable is the OS Max .30VG ES ABL motor, but I havent heard much on it compared to the Picco's and other higher quality engines.

The 5 ports have lower transfer timing and higher blowdown timing so the transfer ports will close sooner and the exhaust port remains open longer so the enigne will scavage differently from say the Plus 4 which has higher transfer timing and lower blowdown timing which means the transfer remain open longer and the exhaust closes sooner. The longer the blowdown timing, the longer the pipe needs to be and the opposite holds true for shorter blowdown.
Now where the Plus 4 excells over say the stock P5 is even though the blowdown timing is longer in the P5 than the Plus 4, the location of the ports in relation to the crank intake timing makes a difference. The Plus 4 ports are higher in relation therefore prefers and benefits more from the longer pipes than the P5 does with lower port to crank intake relation. The Plus 4 also has 3 case induction ports closer in size so the pressure is equalized more across the board where the P5 has 2 larger transfer induction areas and a smaller booster area so the velocity accellerates in the booster and slows down in the transfer areas creating a different chamber fill and a slightly different loop scavaging effect. It doesn't neccessarily mean it's a bad thing, just gives the engine different running and tuning characteristics.
There is definately a science when it comes to pairing pipes with engine designs and yes, most engine designs are close as far as overall timing specs but there is enough of a difference between them that certain pipes will excell on some and not fair as well with others. There are also some what I would call neutral pipes that work decent on just about any engine you throw them on but again may not be the best for it but it will run decent either way and get you in the ballpark.

hey guys just picked up a new p5 for my d8t. Is it cool to run 30% right off the bat? manual says 25 max. What do you guys think. I used to run 30% last season with good results but I reall wanna prolong the life of this motor as much as possible. Any good avice?
Also I have a dynamite 053 hard anodized pipe but ppl are recommending the 086...any reason for this?
