Hey guys,
I'm kicking around the idea of getting a nitro buggy(probably a Losi 8ight 2.0). I've mainly been running electric off road in the past with a little(very little) nitro on road. Anyways, what is the best Novarossi engine to have these days in a buggy? I want the usual...good power, fuel consumption, tunability. With any engine recommendations could you also include the best pipe and manifold to use also. Thanks for all your help!

The p5 or the plus-4team with a short round Nova header and a 9853ss pipe....

Default Well

The p5 is the classic buggy engine. It has more torque than the plus-4, I don't know about the team version plus-4 though. the plus-4 has a bit more rpm and a better front bearing, and a bit more runtime....but my favorite engine is the p5. I may be a little bit biased, but for 240 bucks (Stock). It's a great deal.

I recommend getting a Houston tuned p5 with a silicone filled crank and the double sealed Novarossi front bearing, and a novarossi rear ceramic bearing. It's really nice and easy to tune, and will clear any technical jump on the track...

A lot of guys seem to like the plus-4 it is a bit smoother on the power and tops out with a few more rpms...I just can't retire my favorite engine line....

I think I'm gonna go with the PLUS.21-4BTTS dual ceramic and see how that works out for me.

U would say the p5 Tony

P5 Houston tuned if u like power, Merdith will put a toro in buggy cause he loves power more then his momma, I love the p4 team but it is a Lil easier to drive, I bought 5 after I got my first one and iv had every engine brand and edition they've came out with, in buggy the p4 is the best all around n truck p5 or toro or bonito, the 3 pipes I recommend are for p4 is, 9901 90% of the time, 2013 for tite tracks and the 2084 I don't really like honestly restricts the entire power band for me, for toro 2084 all day or the 9853ss, 021 header is my favorite with all pipes but the 020 will work with toro iv heard, p4 has a mild mid compared to the other engines n thus creates n enjoyable power band u can always drive with clean, that's why I love the p4.

Default Hehe

Yeah on larger tracks the 7 ports just do the trick, but for most tracks the p5 or the plus 4 is perfect, actually better....The 7 ports are really fast, but harder to tune, and nothing compares to the brute torque of the p5....You never feel like you are leaning on the engine to make power down low. If you drive agressive it may be too much, I tend to drive really smooth and gentle so the p5 keeps me up to speed....If you drive really hard the plus4 is better....

You can't go wrong with Nova's latest and greatest Plus 4...It's just a bit pricey....I'd prolly get the plus4 team for 300 bucks....the billet piston seems to last a little longer....

If I just didn't want the p5....

and the 2084 stinks, the 9853 is the best....but most like the 9901...the smooth power of the plus-4 can be pepped up a bit using the 9853ss....

Great advice Matt.....

Interesting reading the negatives on the 2084. I run one on my P5 and love it. Running a 41020 header and it's been awesome in my MBX6T. FMS in buggy, steel flywheel and .9 springs just to tone it down on bottom. I love that motor. Hardly run my +4 anymore. It's a backup motor now. I am looking at the new Plus 21 - 4BTTS though.

Tony, why do u have to confuse me so much lol now I'm back to wanting a p5, dam u!

I think I'll try that 9853ss with 021 n see if it's better then the 2084, I really was expecting it to create a better mid but nothing has picked that up on my p4 engines, honestly I think it's cause I been using my normal p4 n not the team engine, I wanna save my team engines haha

I really wish I could find a p5 at a gallon used for 140$ I'd take that all day, I just got a brand new team p4 for 220$ so it's hard to drop 230 on a p5
