I have been running Novarossi motors since the early 2000's in onroad. Sedan and 8th scale. I have always liked them. A couple of guys in my area have been trying to talk me into switching to OS.

So I was getting around 9:00 of runtime. The motor ran good, I was able to get a pretty decent tune on it. Made it through the full 30 minute main, pitting every 7:30 and no flameouts.

What is the procedure for checking bearings, and how long do they usually last? This engine now has probably close to 3 gallons through it. I was sorely disappointed in this engine the first couple of gallons and for 6 or so races, but it impressed me yesterday. Maybe I won't make the switch to OS after all.
The Nova bearings are pretty good. They should last a while if you keep the air filters clean and run quality fuel. Once they start feeling gritty when you turn the crank or they develop a lot of play it's probably time to change them. Of course you could always tear the engine apart and inspect them that way too. The only thing that sucks is the Keep Off uses that special offset bearing and Nova is the only company that makes them. The ceramic is $85 and the steel version is still $45.

TKO sells the Keep Off special ceramic bearing for just $34.95.

You are sure about the prices? I have seen ceramics for 115 dollar.
I have modded a crank case so a non offset bearing will fit. It is very easy to do and will save a lot of money.

Yes, novarossidirect.com has the ceramic 16803 for $82 and serpentamerica.com has them for $79 plus whatever shipping is. The steel ball 16802 is about half the price of the ceramic.

I think I've seen a thread on your mod. Definitely looks like a good idea if you have the tools. Probably a lot cheaper in the long run especially if you just use the $20 Avids or TKO's

I like your bearing conversion except your going to lose the magical performance gains that bearing provides

Maybe you can get a patent for it. Could call it:

"Patent for bearing elimination of the patented bearing from Novarossi" ;-)

Can someone please help me select a new engine for my truggy?
From what I've been able to find out so far, I'm looking at a 7 port.
Either a Vir-tus .21, keep off 21/7, Mito-7Off or Bonito 21/7.
Wow, there's just way too many options! I would appreciate any recomendations.

from the list you have. go with the Mito-7Off 41031 manifold and 9901. use 7mm restrictor and C5tgn plug. super easy to tune. runs great. i use Powermaster 30% nitro.

How does the Elite 8OFF do in a truggy? Good bottom end?
