NOVAROSSI Engine thread....

Most .21 off road Novas are set at 3 -3.5 turns out for the main needle and 5-6.5 turns out for the low speed needle depending on which carb is installed. Doesn't hurt to start about 1/2 turn more out on both to make sure you don't run lean during those first couple tanks. Good luck.

I like to start at flush and flush to start break in and go from there to keep temps up while heat cycle, read the break in bible at the top of the engine page. Its a life saver for your engine. My novas don't hit a track tune until about a gallon and half.

Usually i will start it n lean lsn or increase idle gap for break in, pre-heat will help for first 10-15tanks. Just break in it till the mechanical pinch goes away n tune for performance.

What is the difference in using the Rex Legend 4 and 7 port engines?
I see the 7 has more stroke 17.6 vs the 4 has the 16.8 stroke and also Max RPM Power is 800 RPM higher on the 7 port. Anything else?
How would you choose one over the other?

Ok a question that hopefully someone can answer. I got a used still running reasonable Rex P5X and a sealed in the box never used one both Production year 2005. These are regular plugs and I run O'Donnell 099 and things have been great, but probably down on power quite a bit to today's engines returning to R/C this year. I find on my used 10 year old motor (raced in 2005 & 2006) that later in 7 min qualifiers or definitely in the mains seem to lose some power maybe leaning out as it goes.
So for supporting these 2 engines going forward after I bought most orings spares and the set of bearings:
Would the Turbo button head # 28002 I see at AMain for the P5X help out much for running turbo plugs?
Would also adding in a newer carb design if I can find one for a good deal be good enough to compete with the latest 5 ports or whatever?
If someone has questions for the first motor then I can answer with a reply. Still has great compression and piston/sleeve are in great shape.

Why not spend the $145 on an Elite 5, and not bother with all of that?

I was told it would help with run time. I am doing that to a engine I have. I know I can do well with it. But the parts didn't cost me anything. It is plenty good enough for club races and maybe our race series. I like a challenge anyways.

Socket I am considering that type of thing, where are they for about $145? I am eyeing one on ebay but would have to do an offer for maybe getting it for $150 as it was BIN for $160 range, but has an offer option.
Maybe I can sell 2 P5X's as a package on ebay one used running and the new one and just grab one of these for now and maybe grab a big power Legend 4 or 7 port or the Elite 8 for another motor.

Chris, you raced this year yet? Did you get an RC8B3? Hopefully the GLORCS gets more entries next year. I could not make Durham this weekend and won't be able to get to SPARC or Otterville races later this month, early next month, but want to race one more time in a single day event before the winter comes.

I bought one from these guys before, they accepted my first offer for $150.

I had an Elite 5, I didn't like it compared to my Keep-off4S. I run on a gigantic track with huge jumps and it's very open. If you're at all considering the Legend 4, just go with one now. They're solid motors and are VERY smooth, with some great top end.
