NOVAROSSI Engine thread....

Just a question guys, has anyone run the Novarossi Dirt Proof front bearing cap thing and if so, how did this effect the motor. It appears to be the same as the Buku item that just got released however it feels tight when trying to turn the motor over. Is it taking power away from the motor? Is it protecting that front bearing from dust?

So, I have about 1/2 gallon through a Beat B4 with the 7.5 venturi. How long should I wait to go down to the 6, or 6.5? I was running it conservatively, and pitting every 5.5-6min, but that was pushing it with a rich tune.

Most nova engines take about a gallon and a half to 2 gallons to fully break in. But at this point you probably could switch to the 7mm insert. You will find that the 7 insert will give you the best run time and performance balance. The smaller the insert the smaller your tuning window.

Thanks. It ran like a champ this weekend (10min B main, plus a bump to the 20min A), but 5 min left me a little less than 1/2 tank.
I'll give the 7.0 and a fresh plug a try. I need to spend a little more time on my idle, as it was only stable for 15-20 seconds, but so far, so good. This thing is going to scream.

People do that for a reason. The outer filter, when oiled will cause fine dust and dirt to stick to it. When its dry, most of the dirt and dust will bounce off instead. It helps prevent your filter from getting gunked up with dirt and makes it harder for dirt to actually penetrate through since most of it is bouncing off instead of sticking. I have countless customers who ask for filters that are only the inner foam is pre-oiled.

So what is the best/most common practice on air filter changes. Pre-oiled, not pre-oiled, what type of oil to use? Proper cleaning of the fiilter assembly? This seems to be the main problem with engines getting hurt, just curious what everyone does? Does Nova have a guideline?
Buy filters in packs of 12.
Use a good filter oil, not one of those very liquid flowing oils, but a sort of sticky gummy one, as the very liquid ones just get inhaled into the motor and after one tank most of the oil is gone. Oil the inner filter and smear some grease on the edges of the filter to help it seal against the plastic filter disc.
Don't oil the outer filter.
Do what I say and women will love you.

I have a question, is the front bearing in the nova motors the same as the RB. I am due for a change in my B10 and I cant figure out why the bearing is 42 big ones and the bearings for the nova motors averages under 20 bucks. The only thing I can think is it is an odd width. I appreciate any input, thanks

All kidding aside, when I time my idle its only for about 20 seconds and then give it a yank, it should give a nice puff of smoke and clear out. after about 20 seconds my idle will start to drop. Once you reach that magic mark and the engine drops its nuts you will have no problem with your idle. but if its staying stable for 15 seconds you are probably very close to optimum on your LSN. In case you didn't know, Nova's do not like a overly rich LSN.
And that time should increase once you get a full race tune on. what pipe/header are you running?
