What header/pipe combo would work best with Novarossi Bonito XLBS? Looking for good balance between torque, top speed and runtime. I am on Novarossi plus 4BTT right now and I already have 41021, 41020 header and 9901, 2096, 9886 pipe.

I am happy with the tunability and stability of my BTT, I could accelerate in an instant from 15 second dead stop, idle all day upside down or upright, never ever flame out during an hour main race, things that I couldn't do on an OS, but no matter what I tried and how much I spent on pipes I could never get it to have the pop I am looking for, I couldn't clear jumps that I could clear easily with my stock blue head OS XZB on 2060. The BTT is just wayyy too tame for my demand.

I know from this thread that 41001 header will give the BTT more pop I am looking for, but I can sell my BTT easy and since the local dealer is having crazy sale, with the money I get from my used BTT and for just a little more I can get a brand new Bonito XLBS with new header and pipe of my choice. I assume a BTT with 41001 header will still be not as quick as a Bonito, did I assume right? Clocked BTT is not an option on this side of the world.

I know it is a heresy to talk about OS here, but I need honest opinion. Durability aside, but how do you compare stock Bonito XLBS and OS XZB Speed? Pop Off the line, mileage, top speed....

TIA
did you try going to a 7.5mm restrictor maybe it will suit you more and give you the power you are after

Also, I hope I'm not ruining my engine, but my engine ruined a glowplug on monday. The coil was crooked when I removed it.

Thanks

As long as its not gone , all is good

Keep a good eye on your plug , also oil the threads and taper area when installing plugs

I did that on my plus-4 and it helped a little bit. also the 41001 header with the 9853ss pipe wakes up a plus 4 in my experience. and drop the shimming to .70 from .80.

If you read the tuning bible at the top of the Engine Section, several paragraphs down, it has an area on how to read glow plugs. A slightly warped coil is a lean condition and a severely warped or broken coil is sign of VERY lean condition....FYI
The tuning bible is a good read and a great way to learn and confuse yourself too! Excellent stuff really.

Reading the glow plug is a very good method. Just remember it has to be a new plug when you read it. I like to check it after a qualifier, then I know the plug has 8 to 9 minutes of run time on it.

Default Glowplug

A bent or burned plug may not be too lean it just may be too hot of a plug.

a hotter plug gives a wider tuning window therefore the engine may be running with a bad tune it still is not helping the plug.

I did some measuring on some different plugs today. Os, Voodoo, Od, and Nova were all very close on angle and diameter at the tip. The only difference being the relief of the threads on the tip end. I had a friend send me a newer Nova plug as the one I had was a few years old, when I get it I will do a full report.

Once again , the issue has to do with the length of the taper and how thin the nova head buttons are at the end of the taper closest to the combustion bowl

I was just going to ask that same question about glo plugs. I cant seem to read the numbers on my glo plug to replace it. The motor is a plus 4 and my local hobby shop only has os plugs. What is the best option when it comes to replacing the glo plug?

I wasn't going to bring this topic up since it died but I received a few emails from Nova. We aren't done but they stayed the Nova plugs are a close comparison but different. He stated Nova doesn't recommended OS they prefer there customer to use Nova plugs. After I received this email I requested more specific information its obvious they want too sell there plugs.

He emailed back yesterday and requested the Nova thread link. The engineer wanted to read the comments/debate IE specific. He also asked if there were companies that sold Nova's on this thread if so what were they recommending. I replied "Yes" ( no names stated) and to read the thread.

I stated if he could provide specific since there where customer using OS plug. He stated if a customer was using a OS plug Nova would void any warranty claims . I came back stating its fine / understandable . I then stated he wasn't answering my question and requested for specific information on OS plug and there compatibility to there head button. He stated he will get back.
