My Novas run well at 210-230. Maybe time t lean them out bit? On top I'm think, low end seams pretty dialed.

Do you guys running the 4BTTS set your EPA to fully open the carb? I know this is going to be track dependant. I'm just trying to learn more tricks for extending run time.

Your EPA should always be set so that the carb slide is equal to the opening the of venturi. Only reset when changing the size of the Venturi.

Yes, I understand that point. I've heard of people setting it to open around 85% of the venturi in order to extend run time. Just wondering how common that was.

do a little test....fire your engine up on the starter box, get it to a steady idle, then spray nitro spray right behind the flywheel...just a little spritz....see if the engine stalls or not.........

I'd just run a smaller Venturi for that matter :weird:....

Carb Insert and EPA Settings...
I want to make sure I am clear on this topic please...
I currently have my EPA set for max carb travel even though I may be running a 6.5 or 7.0 mm insert. This is actually considered wrong as I should have my EPA set so the carb only opens up to the extent of the insert and not max slide travel? How will this setting change performance of the engine or milage? Thanks for the help... |

K a few questions. I ordered a stock Nova Roma 25 and 9886/41001 from Murnan for my bosses Inferno GT2. Was wondering what fuel to run with it. We ordered Nova C6TGC plugs for it. We usually run 30% here in Utah. Will it be ok to run 30% nitro with those plugs?
Thanks! |

Correct! You should always set EPA to the Venturi opening or 1 - 2 % past the opening. The main thing this does is gives you a more constant tune
Idle will occasionally run a little high but will start to do it more towards end of tank. Most of the time when at normal idle it will sit for about 15-20 secconds before dropping down. If I sit much longer then 25 seconds it will be hard to clear out and stall. All new fuel lines and sealed up tank nipples and new clunk lines. My idle gap is a little less then .6mm with venturi out. I feel like the LSN might be a little to lean because the temps don't seem to drop when sitting at idle for a long time but I always get a nice puff of smoke coming out of a corner or off the line. but on the flip side if I have to putt around in the lower part of my throttle for say a 1/2 lap to 3/4 lap it will eventually load up and stall when I go to full throttle. Motor is just around at 1.75 gallons. I figure its about to drop its nuts soon and should be good to go. Guess I need to do some more running with the smaller venturi and correct EPA and see what it does for the low end. Maybe the LSN is good and I am just being to picky looking for the absolute perfect idle all the time no matter the tank level. Any other thoughts?? |

Learn something new every day. Guess I'll have to try out the 7mm with a correct epa. Been running the 7.5 and have been pretty happy but running just about full throttle (few % points shy to make sure carb isn't over extended due to chassis flex). Just in from flush on the LSN and Just out from flush on the HSN and running 230* to 240* HSN needle is tuned well, no lean bog, plenty of smoke all the way through the rpm range.

I am new to RC this year so you can take my advise however you like, but I feel I have really come a LONG way with all this stuff. A piece of advice I give everyone who ask for it...in NO way with the "toys" we play with, is there a contest for who can idle the longest. Without a single blip of the throttle I really feel if tuned correctly, an engine shouldn’t run any more than 30 - 40 seconds. Again, I could be COMPETLY wrong, because what I learn is from reading and then going out and test and change to my liking. And with that said, I race EVERY chance I get, I travel to big races and I tune my engines like stated above and I cannot remember the last time I had a flame out!! Racing EVERY WEEKEND and hard, I KNOW it has been over 1.5 months, so this is just my 2 cent...maybe 3 LOL....but I try and help when I can and if I am completely wrong about something sorry |
I think you are rich on bottom.
Mine goes straight to low idle and stays there. That is how I was taught to set it many years ago. |

Yes, 30% is just fine with those plugs. That's what I run in my roma. That engine rocks!
