Im in the process of buying a new p5xlt and my engine man is going to install the crank from the plus4c team and says this will give it a smoother power band and better fuel millage. Just wanted to know if anyone else here has had this done and your input. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have the Plus4 with Ceramic Bearing and had a few questions... 1. Should I run the plastic 6.5 insert in carb or an aftermarket alum 6.5 insert. My thought is the plastic one should create less condensation over the alum but wanted to get your thoughts... 2. Is 6.5 as small as you would really want to run on this engine? When I used to run my mugen OS based ninja I would run a 6.0 Thanks for the hep! the smaller you go the smaller your tuning window becomes. |
Run time
I am only getting about 7 min on my plus4C at the moment. It does only have just a gallon through it and it is pretty rich on the bottom. I have the 7.0mm insert in it now. It is in an RC8.2 buggy. Seems like I should be getting more run time then that.
Also I keep leaning the bottom out a little and by the end of each run it is fat again. Motor is temping around 180 - 190 after 6 to 15 min run. My plan is to just keep leaning it out on the bottom for now. Top end and idle are great at the moment when engine is cleaned out. |
To be honest
Every engine I've owned in 20 years has had about the same runtime. I can't tell a difference from my p5's to the 7 ports to the plus-4's.
I can tell you that if it's running beloow 200 on break in or 220 race tune it's too fat, probably on the top too. Try setting the needles flush on bottom and flush on top then run it a little and make sure it's at least 200. Then stop the car, and if it idles fine then drops pretty low then you need to lean the bottom, but carefully, it doesnt take much on the bottom. Run it some more and if it feels a bit slow on the top end lean it a couple hours and see what happens. After refocusing on the bottom needle try to get it to idle steady for at least 15 seconds, then adjust the idle so it doesnt go too low when stopping or refueling or run on, but only after you get the bottom end right or you get all confused.. It never hurts to have it a tiny bit high but not to where the clutch is engaging. You should get at least 8 minutes if not more. |

Im getting close to 10 how about u try a 6.5mm carb insert I am using a exhaust cooler and I have gone back to 25% nitro and that makes a small difference instead of 30% my hsn is around half turn in from flush and LAN just in from flush temping at around 220 cheers

I have an FMS as a backup engine and for the heck of it i ran it in my MBX6T last weekend, ran great, plenty of power for the truggy. I ran it with a 7mm venturi, Werks light clutch with 4 alum shoes, 2 .9s and 2 1.0s for springs, stock gearing, and a 2084 pipe with 41021 header.
If i had to put it in my Buggy, i'd probably run a 9901/21, all else the same |

Hey Aussies, did you run your Roma today. What run times did you end up with if you did. I ended up having to run 14/48 gearing to tame the bottom end enough to be able to drive it. We have a small tight track with small jumps. Had more that enough power to get out of the corners really hard and clear every jump we have. It was friggin insane down the straight. I'm currently getting 7.5 mins with about four liters thought it.

I ran my FMS yesterday with the settings you said it ran good a little fat on the bottom and only about 7 mins on a tank but it barely has a gallon on it yet I run a P5 (non turbo) in my buggy it ran awesome all day until the mains I went to fire it up and completely detonated 3 plugs in a row :( it has only 3 gallons on it what are the stock settings for that motor I want to reset it and start over again. Thanks in advance.

stock settings about 3 to 3.5 turns out hsn and 5 on lsn thats super rich factory be sure to set your idle gap and be sure to pull out your lsn when you set it:nod: but 3 plugs in a row sounds weird I would take a look inside at your piston, pin and rod checking for movement on the crankshaft check you bearings whilst you are there:nod:

yea those settings were the factory settings, so likely a little rich. Settings are the same for the P5, but again it should be a bit too rich on them. prob gonna be closer to 3 on the HSN and 4.5 on the LSN, but that all depends on pipe, elevation, temperature, humidity, etc, etc

Really need help
2 or 3 years ago i bought a 28-7 ran that motor for 8 gallons no problems what so ever only changed rod 1 time and changed bearings 1 time around three gallons. Since i had such great luck with this engine last year i bought 2 more the first engine broke it in using heat cycle method like i always have, after the first gallon put a good race tune and ran great good power never over 250 , then right when it hit 2 gallons lost all compression started having tuning issues started flaming out ( it just died ):flaming: So i chalked it up to maybe got into motor or something. Ok hears my problem , i pulled second motor out at first of the year did the break in properly ran half gallon then put a slight tune never getting it over 220 made sure of it ( didn't want the same thing to happen to this motor ) finally got to a gallon then put a good race tune running perfect running around 240 with plenty of smoke. I went to first race with this motor last night first round of qualifying ran great , second round started having tuning issues tuned a little got it fixed (so i thought ) went in to the a-main plenty of smoke running great , about half way through the race it fell on its face wouldnt even rev up barely would stay running ,took it to my trailer no compression even after it cooled it spun freely, i took it a part thinking something had to got in it or something , it looked like it was brand new no scratches in cylinder the only thing i saw was piston will now go all the way out the top of the cylinder like i had ran 10 gallons through it . I was furious so i showed it to all the top guys that run our dirt oval series and every one of them told me they had the same problems and thats why they didn't run novarossi engines any more. Now i am in the market for new engines and i need some help deciding are the new novarossi engines pieces of crap like these two were or have they fixed the problems
