What do you guys use to clean your engines? I need to clean the bock, sleeve, piston, crankshaft etc.

Muggydude 05-12-2012 10:23 PM

Nitro clean/brake cleaner/ compressed air.

If at all possible leave the block alone. otherwise take the bearings out first and spray in some nitro clean, then use the compressor.

Spray out the rear bearing good too!

The bearings can be a real pain to pull out without the right tools, which is why I like to leave it alone until the end of the season compete tear down and replace.

Stick the bare block in the oven to pull the bearings out.

What kind of run times are you guys getting with the roma .25? Better then the bonito? Thanks

denatured alcohol is the best cleaner for engine internals

I would be interested in your run times too. I'm running ro a .25, nitro x 30% with 41021/2096 ss. 50/13 tooth. I have about 1.5 litre through at moment and will have it out on Saturday and race Sunday. Will know more about run times then. I am thinking of putting 14 t bell on to try and tame bottom end a little. If not that then a 50 t main gear.

Losi also has a 47T, and 48T center spur gear, with the 13T clutch bell thats works well for taming bottom end. It also helps if you go to a steel fly wheel, instead of using aluminum, for engine with heavy bottom end.

I'm running the 6mm ATM. But doesn't mean I will stay with that. Not too sure about using the 5.4 as the tuning window will be quite diminished I recon.

Gonna be doing personal testing with the roma this wknd ;) during competition:nod:

aussies1129 05-16-2012 06:02 AM

trying to sort out what glow plug would best suit my area , temps rarely get below 25deg celcius and in the summer about 32deg C with humidity similar to florida weather so would I best off trying the c7tgc or just stick with the c6tgc to run in btt,+4,toro,roma

NovaRossi Plus21-4BTT Engine

I am getting ready to buy one of these engine for my sons buggy. The one with the ceramic rear bearing.
What pipe will be best for fuel mileage?

What is the best break in method for these engines? I have never had to break in a new NR engine before.

I appreciate the help!!!

Couple of questions about the p5xl - RBMODS:

I bought the engine used and have a couple of questions about the motor. I took it apart the other night, for cleaning, and there are no head shims.
Shouldn't the head be shimmed? The exploded view shows three.

If no shims is OK then what plug should I be running. I'm running the Novarossi HOT right now and having problems with idle (even b4 I took it apart). I just can't get it to a lower idle without almost closing the throttle gap.

What does RBMODS do to a motor? The crank wasn't filled and I didn't notice anything special besides the lack of shims.

Thanks,
Dennis

beidle99 05-16-2012 09:21 AM

YOu should have shims, approx .8 They might be stuck to your head button. Idle gap should be about .5 to .6 with the venturi removed (its not an exact measurment but that gets you in the ball park) If the idle is staying consistant, just high then close down the gap. Even with the venturi out .6 looks almost closed and with the venturi in it will look closed.

As far as what RBmods does, i'm not sure. I only have had 2 tuned motors, Paris .12 touring car motor back in 2001 and now a Houston plus 4 (which I have resisted the strong urge to take a apart and look at teh internals)

If its a turbo and its above 75* F then I would recommend the c6tgc, if under then use the c5tgc
