definitely looks like that is an issue . possibly a plug filament maybe a wrist pin clip ?

if it is still running good then it is what it is and leave it alone .

looks like you are replacing with a new rod ?

The engine was bought second-hand, so I'm just going over the mill to see how bad I got shafted. It actually still gets great compression, and yes, it's getting a new rod & rear bearing, but I've learned my lesson as to buying second-hand engines.

i wouldn't really buy a used engine unless it is from a reputable source

what brand front bearings do you recommend. i have tried a couple diffrent; bearing co off ebay and a 4c hobby and both failed after 2 weekends. the 4c leaked and seemed to let some dirt in this weekend and lost a new p/s this weekend. i do use a ofna bearing puller to remove and install.

the best (and most expensive) front bearing on the market is the new double shield on the outside of the bearing novarossi . it is the on that comes in almost all the new nova engines . i use tko ceramic front engine bearings for replacements . i take one side of the shield off to allow the bearing to get lubricated during running . i take bothe seals off and determine which of the seals has more rubber on the inside of the seal as to make a better seal and install that seal on the side with the open balls and install in the engine .

if you insist on running an os plug in a novarossi style engine then i guess i would use a p4 if i was you. since you have already used os plugs in the engine , continue with using them . otherwise i would recommend odonnell 97t or 77t

I have a question for you Monty, I currently run a +4 with the standard head, 077 plug, Nitro Juice 30%, and a DYN 053. I have only run indoor tracks so far but will be running some outdoor tracks soon. The DYN 053 has great low end (bordering on too much) and a decent top end, but for the outdoor tracks I would like a bit more up top and I would not mind giving up some bottom as I have tire shreding tq down low right now.

Would I be better off going with a turbo plug or changing to a DYN 086 pipe? I know that there are all sorts of other pipes and to be honest I really do not know the difference in most of the numbers. What would you recommend? If it is another pipe/header combo then let me know (something available would be best ).

Thanks Monty

i have about 6 dyn 086hs pipes in my box that is my pipe of choice and i haven't been disappointed on any nova engine to date

On a 09 +4 what is the best pipe for fuel mileage? An 053 or 086. I'm also running a 6mm restrictor.

more mileage from the low end to mid pipes like an 053 . throttle finger is where the most runtime comes from though
