P3. It gives you the biggest tuning window.

For that comment (you gimp) , you should just run OS engines if youre gonna run OS plugs

I hear ya Houston for sure, but for this engine its gonna be os plugs until I can get a new Nova button. For now Im trying to figure out the best heat range, P3 4 or 5?

LOL, I was merely stating that since he's already using OS plugs and can't go back to a Nova plug the P3 is the best option in my humble opinion:D

Id like to try the Odonnel 97T but not sure if there will be head leaks now..

P3, P3 , P3 or humble yourself and listen and read what Monty has said!

P3 is the devils plug... It makes evry engine run on idle and not flame out, but you do not get the full potensial out of your engine, powerwise and fuelconsupmtionwise. It is just to hot. Espesially in Nova engines.

OR to prevent looking like too much of an ass can... LOL, YOU can read first to understand!
I stated earlier "I hear ya Houston for sure, but for this engine its gonna be os plugs until I can get a new Nova button. For now Im trying to figure out the best heat range, P3 4 or 5? "

Also, can one of you guys provide me with the skinny on the idle gap for Novas? I hear 1mm I hear .7 I hear .5. What should i set it too? I have it at about .9mm right now.

sn47som1 09-12-2014 01:14 PM

Another thought as I try to master tuning LOL
How come more guys dont dial in the tune as much as possible on the box with the filter off so inside the carb can be SEEN!! So now you can see the idle gap during the tuning process and dial in the LSN that way with the pinch test to get really close. Now you can know for sure youll have the LSN at a good tune and the idle gap set correctly then you can put filter on and drive the track tuning the HSN and dial the low end and idle in again a bit more

NEVER run your engine without the air filter. I visually set the idle gap(without the carb insert installed btw) just to have a consistent starting point and for reference. then you can just adjust it slightly for fine tuning. There's no magic number out there too many factors consistently changing, but that's part of the fun and challenge.

I never adjust my idle gap looking at the carb, I always tune. I little hint to the Nova/Reds drivers out there. You should not turn your needles more tha a minute at the time. When your tune is close, i see alot of people still turning their screwdriver 3-5 minutes at a time. This is to much and it will be difficult finding the sweetspot of the enigne. Espesially on LSN.

Does anybody have a part number for the head button for a Nova Keep Off 7?

Looking at the exploded views of the Keep-Off 21.7XL, the part number you're looking for is 28025 (bare head button) and maybe 29002 (head button o-ring). The oring doesnt do much but add another layer of protection from dirt and dust.

Hey guys, curious, what symptoms would i theoretically see when going from an OS plug in Nova head button to a different plug like an Odonnel or back to Nova for example, like lets say there is a tiny head leak now from the OS plug creating that. Hard to tune? Loss of power? difficulty idling? How would i really know if switching between diff brand plugs didnt do any harm at all? If theres good power and consistent tune?

nolimit1984 09-16-2014 08:07 AM

i would say once you run an os plug in the button just run os plugs in that button or get a new button and run nove odonnel etc. i did it once ran nova plug (ran fine just didnt have any on hand)then put os plug in ran fine then went bad to a nova plug and just had problems
