Rubber bands will not cause any binding on a nova carb. You don't need a ton just a couple. Hair braiding bands from sallys work great!

What we have found is that when you use a rubber band it can cause issues with the binding of the carb slide in the body. At least on the nova rossi carb tried it on did. I am just concerned about putting a load on the carb slide that prevents it from pulling straight could cause problems down the road. Maybe I am wrong but that is how feel and see it.We are using hair bands on our engines.

Monty what are your findings and thought's?

I put a silicone hair band (silicone is fuel resistant ) around the carb boot and two to keep carb closed on engines i do special work on ,everybody always says "where do you get those?" Lol

I will not even install an engine without them

I can see where racers might be having issues , if not installed so the bands are putting very lil to no side pull on carb ball they will probably cause some binding

All in all im for goodys silicone hair bands ,rubber bands are not throttle return springs ,lol

Monty I have seen them used as a throttle return spring and that is why I mentioned it. You can never be to cautious. People will do crazy things sometimes. Thanks!

Same here Monte, have used hair elastics for ages on my engines and only occasionally do they break after lots of use and need replacement.

My wife has long hair and I always nip a few from her stash of hair bands for my engines :D

Houston.. I was preparing my car for the race tomorrow, and I discovered the engine was wet with fuel and crud from the bottom of the crankcase up to half way up the carburetor body. Basicly from the front bearing and back an inch, and from the front bearing and up half an inch.

Am I correct in assuming the front bearing is done for?

It's a Speed with 4'ish gallons of actual races on it.

Can I get a phone number for Houston's? A PM would be fine or just posted here.

I need to order a new engine and pipe but I'd like to discuss some specifics first to make sure I get all the goodies spec'd right.

Thanks in advance!

That wasn't my post. I emailed you from your website asking for your phone number but found it elsewhere. Gave it to my buddy and he called you yesterday about getting us a couple engines, pipes, and clutches.
I appreciate you taking the time yesterday to help us get everything figured out and headed the right direction. Can't wait to get the engines in!!
