ENGINE RUN IN

You will have to play with the needles a little bit and cover the head of your engine with a pit towel but do 3 heat cycles within the first tank at 210 degrees (2-3 min. intervals),

at idle on stand? yes.

then run it around on the ground gently only slightly rich keeping the temp between 210-230 (monitoring temps frequently ) careful not to let the engine get into its powerband , do this for about 1 full tank at a time but do not let it run out of fuel .do this for 3 tanks (cooling in between tanks), quarter throttle or so with short blips of more (full) throttle ..not high?slow pulls on the throttle in 30-40ft bursts .

then richen the needles a bit and run it about 180-200 on the track for 3 straight tanks monitoring temps frequently(every 2 laps) leaning it out slowly until you can start to feel the powerband (check the plug at this point and let it cool down),

what am I looking for exactly on the plug ?make sure the plug still glows and looks new, if it looks all distorted pull it out as you dont want a plug filament to go through the engine

go back out on the track,(lean out slowly) when you get it tuned in to where its not totally screaming but you have enough power to make the jumps with a slight bog at full throttle and runs at about 230 , let it cool . go out and run the rest of the gallon til the power comes up and the temp drops instantly (i call it "dropping its nuts"). this process sometimes takes more than a full gallon . use a heat gun to heat to 200 before you start at each step hope this helps ya , pretty detailed

I have had great success with this method and longevity , monty

Monty, which mod head button are you using? I assume you mean something other than the turbo button supplied with the +4? I have just about 1 gallon through mine and it's not quite screaming yet...but I know it will!!:nod:

I'll give that a try Friday night and see how it goes. I'm out of ideas, might be a couple of C6 for sale cheap after this weekend:flaming: Thanks for the help

67chevy11---Since you drive a Losi and this is only happening on race day, tell your pit man to NOT let the fuel lid slap shut. It's weird I know, but when they let the lid slap there is a sudden pressure which floods the engine. As soon as the pressure is equalized the engine runs fine. I'm sure on practice days or running it around your house that it's not hurried and the fuel lid isn't allowed to slap shut as hard.

This is something that has happened several times with me and a couple other friends with the Losi vehicles. As long as the lid doesn't slap shut--no problems. At our last race I let the lid slap on my friends car after refueling and sent him down pit lane. Well he went about 8 feet and the car was so fat that it wouldn't move, but he knew that I didn't pit much for people and had let the lid slap shut. He had to stand on the throttle for about 10 seconds to clear it out. Then he shot away right as I was about to push through the crowd to grab his car. Engine ran fine the rest of the race.
