Talked to a few people at the byrons race @ dirt burners about their bonitos and they told me that bottom end was non-existent until they filled the crank, so of course I took some time to watch em run and I gotta say it seemed to have low end grunt but top end was not what I was expecting. I could tell u that the bonitos LOOKED slow but that would be and unfair judgment as I have never tuned or driven one. But I can tell u that I have tuned a few Ninja engines and I am always impressed with the power they produce. My point really is that I don't THINK that u will get what u are hoping for out of the bonito based simply off of speculation

i wasnt trying to rag on any engine. I was simply stating what i seen compared to other engines. I do not have experience with either engine except for the little ive done breaking in the bonito

I would not say the bonito is slow by any means. I am currently running one and I have yet to be walked down or passed by another motor. I am running it with the 2096 pipe and I am just removed the copper shimm to make the overall stack .60 which I will be giving a test this weekend.

G'day Monty Im so sorry to have to re'ask this as I know you have answered this Question before Ive breezed through from page 80 to page 180 and couldnt find the answer..(I have pen and paper ready to write it down this time).lol.
OK. Im running the P5xlt with the 9901ss/41005 Headder I also have a GRP pipe and headder (cant remmber the numbers).
But you mentoned another pipe headder combo that would better suit my engine could you Please refresh my memory.?
money is not an issue as long as my engine/pipe combo is as gooder match as it can be...
Thanks in advance.

Most 7 ports have legs and can walk all over and pull other engines on the strait away, but I've found that overall it depends on the track size and available traction...
On large open tracks the 7 ports will indeed walk all over and pull other engines, sometimes they even wave their arms as they go by.....
But the tracks large or small that have tight twisty turns and or jumps that are difficult to clear (jumps close to the turn) the more torque the better, and in my experience the 7 ports hit hard, but have a little more of a delay than the p5's and even plus 4's, even though the 7 ports can out jump them with more of a run at the jump...
I've never lost a race because my legs were not long enough, or my porting felt inferior to more manly engines...but i have passed guys on the inside because they overjumped the jumps and blew past the turns...
I had a 367, a toro, and still own an FMS and an x7 and they are the only two that seem to pull enough out of the turns, and the 36 and toro team only worked on the bigger tracks with smooth flowing turns...
I would like to see dyno results on the x7 versus the Bonito, just to clear up any misunderstanding of tourque production....and where in the power band they make torque

Monty I bought a P5XLT last June or so, and i went on Novarossi web site and there is new exploded view of the engine as of 5-16-2011. All of the part #'s are the same even the breakdown of the carb. But the carb as a whole is a new number. It went from 24069 (old) to 24063 (new). I thought I had the new carb already, whats the difference

honestly you would never know the difference in running them unless someone told you you had a different part #

Just to clear this up since someone who has never had an engine from Monty, let alone an engine modded and broken in by Monty decided to comment. The X7 mentioned was mine. I as the driver had no problem with its performance. It has made exceptional power at the nats in cali when it was brand new, at the regional race in utah over a mile high, and back here in AZ at the Nitro Pit and Fear Farm. On the night in question it was taken from the shelf after about 3 months of collecting dust and no love and thrown on the track. The truck it was in wasn't perfect, the clutch surely wasn't perfect, and mostly likely the tune was close but not perfect. It started right up, ran all night no problem, and I got third in the main behind a full sponsored driver and Losi Racer. I would not attribute his success to my lack of motor but rather to a great drive and setup ride with a fair amount of track time. Not sure why if I'm happy with my motor someone else needs to worry about it. Just Sayin'. So if you thinking about one of these motors go ahead and indulge. I have been very happy with it. And it's getting right at ten minutes of run time here in the summer with that safe tune. Should go well over that in a month or two.
