5 port is awesome

bought a MINT hyper 7 pro UK edition and have spent last few weeks buying my engine radio and other parts to get it to run. I bought a used gen 4 5 port (just under a gallon) brand new GO 0801 pipe brand new Answer alloy clutch set with 1.0 springs and also a brand new gen 5.5 Carb to try out.
Fastrex starter box came this morning and I started and ran the 5 port for the first time and WOW! this engine is a demon! loads of bottom end and I was so surprised how much top end this engine had  found the gen 4 carb with long low needle fine aswell so wont be using the 5.5 gen card just yet!

I had a runaway buggy last week and when i arrived at the buggy sometime later(this thing is fast) the buggy was upside down going at full throttle. I killed the engine and let it rest for a day. The engine is a 3R, i took it apart and inspected the engine as best i could. everything seems to be fine. i took it out to run it today and it actually runs a bit rough but it runs. the one thing i did notice is that no matter my tuning it seems that the high end is limit-less. if i richen the mixture it goes OK then if i lean it out an hour it goes incredibly fast but with an extremely high pitched rev. i know this is bad, what would you guys do next? i am trying to check for an air leak cause the engine sounds kinda funny when idling, i can hear what i think is air being sucked into the engine(its much louder then before) i just don't know where its coming from. thank you for your time.

I take my engines completely out of the car. hook 3 feet of hose to fuel inlet, put fingers over carb inlet and exhaust outlet. then with the whole engine under water blow like hell into the tubing and watch for air leaks. Air coming out from the front bearing is pretty much standard. Not alot but some. chances are your air leak is the hsn seal. you can make all the seals out of fuel tubing. Grizz will probably chime in when he reads this. I use his method until I can get some from massive mods. Do not waste your money buying the regular seals get the massive mods ones. they are nitrile and last forever. and actually grizz's home fix is also a solid way to go. But before you go replacing everything find all the leaks.

Go .25 questions

What is the correct shimming for a GO .25 6 port using 25% nitro? Is the crank for the .25 6 port different from the .21 5/7 port engines? What is a good pipe to use for the .25 6 port? I have; 086, ttr 2035. 0801, and 2047. What would be the best one to use for a medium sized track in a truggy. Thanks

i dont think its the high speed needle because i have an ebmoded carb that has been sealed. i am just going to continue running the engine and see what happens i have an odonnell engine that i will be breaking in soon. i kinda want to see what is going to happen and how long it will run for.

why would you want to ruin an ebmodded engine over an air leak? Hell send it to me and I'll fix it for you. that eb engine will smoke the odonell

go to massive mods, mark has the nitrile coated pins. also order some of his nitrile carb seals. If you don't want to go there go to fx hobby in canada. also racer 22 maybe able to help you. All 3 of them have fast service. FX Racing Hobby Inc.

fievel 08-25-2009 08:26 PM

its not an ebmod engine, just carb. the engine has been through a lot the past few months. i have been running it almost everyday and it has countless gallons on it.

A long stroke Nova/Rb pin will work, not sure if I'd use anything but Go clips though. I have clips and a rod but no pins.
