I finally figured out my tuning issue. Two practices ago I had the hardest time getting a tune that would "stick". Would work great for a few laps then start to lean bog. Mess around with the needles, then it would get worse. It was fairly dark out so I didn't even notice all of the fuel all over the inside of the buggy. I got home and took the carb off and inspected the boot for cracks. I suspected that was the issue since I had just recently taken it apart and cleaned it prior to that run. Fast forward 2 weeks later at the next practice when I noticed excessive amounts of fuel spilling out from under the cooling head. I went to tighten all of the screws down when I realized one was missing. What I believe was happening was that the other 3 screws were strong enough to hold the head down until the temps or revs got high. At that point I started having the lean bog since so much of the fuel was escaping.
I ordered two sets of bolts from Rex and got to run today for the first time in several weeks. The engine tuned exactly as the long needle should, and I had no bogging or temp issues. In fact, I had several people comment how quickly the engine snapped back to idle after WOT. To top it all off, I noticed a significant decrease in temps between tanks today (206 --> 180 even including a 1 hour lean), so I should be able to start race tuning next time out.

I have been running a 7.0 restrictor and have plenty of power and control with my 2.0t I am wanting to try the 6.5 what would be a rule of thumb for changing restrictors. I race the nitro pit usually and it is summer truck ran 22 laps and came off at 234 on 80 degree evening a main.I like the tune and all but just want to try to squeeze more run time and control out of it. What do you think. Just help me to understand a bit more. thanks -Darrin
If you change to a smaller restrictor you will need to lean out a bit. You didn't state what motor your running but most all Go motors will get better mileage and more power over 250 deg. The low speed needle has alot to do with runtime.

If you get the latest 5.5 motor it has a slightly shorter LSN than the previous models. The short needle works well. If you want to just get a long needle (1.6") and trim it down to 1.42" and round off the end. I am running these in both my motors and can get up to 12 min run times without being seriously leaned out.
Check out Massive Mods web site in Australia. With the exchange rate you are getting a very good price at the moment, and Mark will have an engine to you in no time.

A little more info would help on the motor choice, car/truggy, driver ability, track and track surface etc.
I recommend the 3 port race for the beginner to intermediate racers, it is just very smooth but still fast enough to win at the expert/pro level.
Most advanced racers want a little more bottom end than the 3 port has, at least around here. I think the best buggy motor is a retimed 5 port. I charge $15.00 to retime a motor, it makes the 5 port smoother on the bottom and gives it more top end. Fuel mileage seems to have improved also. Best thing is it can be put back to stock easily if you need more bottom end.
