Default Rods, .28 tuning

Will a bad rod cause an engine to not want to idle? I can get my .28 to run but it doesn't want to idle. It's fully broken in. It has compression and the carb is sealed up in all the right places. It's has a short LSN. I have the idle gap a 1mm, LSN at 1.5 turns in and HSN at flush. Sumbitch will not idle! It will run like a raped ape but will die if I'm not constantly bliping the throttle. I also hear a 2 stroke din din din sound after a full throttle pass. Whats that. I'm thinking the rod is shot cause there is a little play at TDC.

Does a Go .28 tune just like a .21 7 port?

Going on your needle settings with the short LSN I would say you are too rich.
The short needle normally has the HSN in about 1.5 turns and the LSN in about 2.5 turns (give or take a little due to fuel and pipe etc). This might be why you can´t hold an idle, as it is loading up real quick and dying.
Not sure if the .28 has the same carb / needle set up, but I am sure somebody on here will know.
That din din sound you are talking about sounds like ¨machine gunning¨ - which is what you get on the overrun if your motor is too lean. But that doesn´t sound like it is feasible with your needle settings. Is this noise when your car is slowing down off throttle, or when it is sitting at idle (before it dies) ?

Hmm - as far as I know this indicates you are running a bit on the lean side.
Like I say, I´m not sure about the carb on the .28
Won´t hurt to richen it a bit and see if the machine gunning stops. Maybe it will idle better too. Could be starving for fuel on the bottom end.
Can´t do any harm by richening it up a little. It will either get better or worse

My engine was making this sound too. It was caused by the clutch engaging and disengaging rapidly... Which in turn was caused by the bottom end being slightly too lean.

Hey Massive mods, Grizz or anyone else that would know. i got a question for you, today i took the b21 out for a spin, this was the used one that came with the new one i got from that guy, Well he told me this one ran well and had a lot of life left, he was wrong, this thing has zero compression, once it warms up it goes super lean then dies,.. no biggie on it though i kinda knew there was a reason it was being thrown in the deal for a song.

Story time is over here is my question, I have seen commented here about different piston and sleeve sets fitting different engines, (there was mention of putting a 5p sleeve in a 3p mill) with this blue headed 3 port is there any other p/s sets that will fit in it? im thinking since i am going to have to do something with this mill i might as well get it running again. my options are pinching the existing sleeve or just doing a proper rebuild to it. When it was almost at temp and right before it went crazy i was liking what it was starting to do.

oh if you have a blown engine with the long lsn in there and NEED to get a tank out of it--- Flush HSN 3/4 turn out from flush LSN. warning though with no compression it will still get hot. try to keep the rpms up since it will have no bottom end (lean bog)

I just wanted to thank 22racer(Rex) for getting my order
of con rods, piston pin and g-clips to me. I was going to
give up on the GO engines this season until Rex sent me
the word that he would make sure I got the items that
I needed. Now instead of thinking about the idea of new
motors soon, I will put in an order for a couple of cases
of fuel.

I was just running my modded 3 port sport today, the thing just flat rips. I can pinch and mod yours for you, you wont be dissapointed. In practice I was getting 11 1/2 minutes runtime.

Default Plugs for GO .28

Which standard plugs are best for the GO .28? Does it take the normal long plug or should I use the OS short plugs? I think part of my idle problems are because my plugs are not hot enough. All I have right now are Dynamite med hots. It idles fine until I pull the glow heater off.

I'm thinking about using the O'Donnel #77 Hot

Is there a turbo button available for the .28?
