i'm a new racer and was wondering what peoples opinion was on which is the better engine. it would be my first new engine.
the track i race on is fairy fast, and the technical stuff isn't tight. but short bursts of power and quick accelleration, not to mention top end speed on the long straights is what i'm after. is there a noticable difference between the 5port engine and teh 7 port engine whats teh advantage in their range of the Modified engine over the standard one. is it just more power. The 7 port is a very strong motor on those type of tracks when you need constant high rpm from mid to top, and the bottom end power is is on par with the 5 port, if there was a stock engine to rival a v spec, the 5 and 7 are it, the 3 imo still needs work to put that kind of power down, but the other 2 hands down are sick buggy engines. The 5 and 7 run very well with the GO 0801 pipe and we are getting 11 to 12 out of the modded 7 ports right now in a 808, and we run a IDRC 6mm carb insert. Good luck |

So if the 5 and 7 port have the same bottom end, and the 7 port has more on top, is there any reason why someone would get the 5 port?
-Steve This is so subjective question. We do not know the each personal preference or the actual track conditions they run on. We can just make suggestions what might work. If you are not sure go with 5pt, if you need high speed and strong mid-top then go with 7pt, if you want linear engine with good top end and affordable price go with r-spec. Match these with proper pipe, do the break in well and off you go and newer look back :p |
i've been doing a bit of searching around the net and other forums and it seams more people are running the 5port engine.
i wanted the 7 port i think more so for the "wank" factor, but i'm now leaning towards the 5 port modified engine. our track is quick, but like Poinas2 said, for the tracks that have jumps straight after a turn the 5 port gives that little bit better down the bottom. i'm sure this engine would be more suited to the majority of the tracks out there... |
Hey guys do i have to get a carb insert or can i just run it how i got it???
|
I have a .25 on order. Was wondering how it compares to the 5 port .21? It is going into a truggy and the tracks are not very large.
|
carb inserts
yeah, how does the carb inserts work anyway.
|
i've seen a lot f local guys running the 3 port, they say a nova carb wakes it up all around and helps with tuning. i'm getting one today to test out this weekend in my truggy.

We are selling heaps here in Aus as people are realising their advantages for truggy CheersM |

Carb inserts restrict the air flow into the carb , also reducing the fuel needed for the required fuel mix. Reducing air intake and fuel intake reduce power slightly but increase tank time. We tried this on the weekend with a 6 mm restrictor in a 5 port , in buggy and were getting 11.15 with the 0801 pipe . oodles of power and top end. So in short its a tuning tool to regulate fuel consumption. CheersMM :batman: |

I'd have to disagree a bit. If we are speaking of stock motors then the 5pt kicks 7pt ass on low-end. This meaning the first kick when you pull the trigger. 7pt will smoke the 5pt if you have higher speed track but if you have tight corners, jumps or sections right after turn and you do not want to think just push the pedal then 5pt hands down. Still the 5pt will easily keep up with others and we have drivers who have been moving from V Spec to 5pt and they are very satisfied with the performance.

The .25 is animal ! almost the same economy as the .21 with more torque .

If your racing very competivley, going smaller will aid in increased runtime, and smoothness, we are running a IDRC 6mm insert in the 7 ports, getting 10 to 12 min runtime and TQing and winning A mains, these mills rock. Yes, the GO .25 is a True Truggy motor. |
