This would be the case if you are running the stock 8mm venturi. If you go smaller to seek longer runtime you might need to adjust accordingly. I found out that my 5p + JP-3 with 7mm insert does not clear out untill you have HSN in about 1/2-3/4 turn. So in case you change the venturi you should consider the effects it has for the tune.

I just ordered a PTM 5 port. Do I need to ad a shim to run Byrons Gen 2 25%? And what restrictors come with it? It will be in my truggy for a very short period till a buggy I am waiting for to be released. When I put it in the buggy what restrictor should I use, and which one should I be using now in the truggy?

Unless you bought a restrictor kit I believe it comes standard with the black 8mm and it's just fine with it. You can go to 7.5 or 7mm with it to gain some on the mileage if you like. For the truggy I'd leave the 8mm on or go to 7.5mm :sneaky: |

HSN flush and LSN 1 1/2 turns in from flush will get you running every time. This is always a good starting setting if you loose the tune completely for some reason.
Lean the LSN from here until you get a nice steady idle and you will be sweet. LSN will probably end up about 2 1/2 turns in from flush, maybe a little more for full race tune depending on fuel, pipe etc. HSN you don't want to go more than about 2 hours in from flush. Go's like a fat top end and a lean bottom end ;) |
i would just like to say i love my go engine but what i dont like is the carb i have the sport 3 port and the carb was a tuning nightmare the motor would run great and then lean bog on the bottom so after reading all the different posts on here i sealed up the needles with green slime ran a tank and lean bog still richened the bottom a half turn great smoke for a minute then leaned out richened another half turn great smoke and power for a minute then leaned out so i swapped the carb with the one from my os motor and it runs reliable and great holds a tune and i could not be happier i would just like to know were do you get the correct low speed needle if in fact i may have gotten one of the bad ones as i would like to make the carb that came with my motor work with my motor
Thanks |

thanks bro and what kind of runtime are you getting with those settings
I did run a 7mm restrictor like Poinas2 suggests in my 5 Port T, and at the end of a six minute heat had 1/3 of a tank left, so looking at around 9 min total. Again this was not full race tune. I believe some of the gun tuners are getting 10 min + out of the 5 and 7 ports !! (not me though :)) |

Around 7 mins depending on track conditions. This is with a pretty conservative tune, not full race tune.

Is it the hsn..that was giving most peps the tunning issues?
Also what part # needle was it being replaced with? |
it was the lsn that was giving me issues. and i replaced the entire carb with an os carb.
i was looking for the correct lsn to replace the one i have in the origanal go carb. |
LSN read back threw the posts..
One other thing do all three go motors use the same crank..and when would be a good time to place it? |
mugenb46,
The 08 model Go's have rectified the carb issues as you mentioned earlier, are these the Gen 4 or 5 carbs? Also re getting 11.5 mins run time with 7 port is that in a buggy or truggy? Is that stock or modified engine? Could you also please elaborate re fuel, clutch set up, pipe combo, restrictor size and EPA settings you have been using? Thanks |

Thanks this engine is being ran in a xray 808, by team driver Dan Reino, i have been out of town every weekend all summer doing big cars, but him and Jackie Woodard are both on my speed dial, they both run xray, and jackie runs truggy, using a PTM .25 the 7 port is not fully modded, at this we are just going a little at a time trying a few things that may roll over into the full modded PTM engines, so far we are liking the results. we are running byrons currently but i stongly prefer Tilted 30%, with a P3 plug and the GO FEMCA 0801 pipe, and innovative designs 6mm carb insert, and Dan is running the stock clutch shoe set up that the car came with, all 1.0 with alum shoes. i don't have a clue what his epa's are on the radio, sorry I will get Dan to post on here in the morning and give his opinion on the feel of the engine to this point, if there is anything he doesn't like he will state it, he is very honest on his input of the engines i provide him, he has done 90% of our testing on the PTM GO engines. |
Does anybody know if GO is taking care of the lsn problem or am I expected to buy a new one myself? I was pulling my hair out with this problem had many others helping over 2 race days. Finally after catching up on this thread, I pulled out an old vspec carb and have had zero issues now
